Job Summary

The Supply Chain Account Manager is responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities with both new and existing customers to sell supply chain transportation services integrating both rail and intermodal. The incumbent understands the transportation and logistics industry and asks customers the right questions in order to meet their transportation needs. The role aligns customer needs with CN's and its partners service delivery capabilities.

Main Responsibilities

Sales and Growth Strategy Management

  • Anticipate customer needs by staying informed of industry trends

  • Manage all commercial aspects of key customers in the Eastern Canada portfolio

  • Develop account growth strategies for customers and maintain existing relationships

  • Deliver yearly revenue and price targets as set out by CN

  • Collaborate with operations personnel to identify available capacity for opportunistic selling to improve overall yield and asset utilization

  • Cross-sell CN's transportation services suite

  • Proactively address any potential service issues with operations personnel

  • Develop a reliable monthly revenue and volume forecast

  • Develop and implement a strategic territory plan

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The role requires frequent travel (60%) in North America for customer site inspections and for customer visits.



Sales and Marketing

  • Minimum 3 years of sales or marketing experience in transportation and logistics services


  • Bachelor's in Commerce, Marketing, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent

  • Master's Degree in Commerce, Marketing, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent*

  • Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset


  • Continuously displays a customer centric attitude in order to improve the customer's journey

  • Regularly identifies opportunities to create value and customer loyalty

  • Addresses risks in a timely manner to eliminate them

  • Collaborates with others

  • Builds and maintains networks

  • Inspires through impactful communication

  • Applies analytical thinking to make recommendations that pursue sustainable performance

  • Time management

  • Knows the business and stays current with industry trends to elevate expertise and work

  • Fluent both written and verbal in English (French is a strong asset)

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge of rail or other transportation services

  • High level of computer knowledge, specifically in Microsoft Office applications and Salesforce

The analysts further use analytical techniques to identify ways to improve the supply chain performance. This position requires the ability to focus on the details while maintaining focus on the big picture. This person must have the ability to make smart and timely decisions in the absence of perfect information.</p> <p>Apply all Procurement levers (Demand, Process, Supply, and Innovation) in identifying solutions and opportunities with stakeholders to increase profitability of our business with sustainable growth. </p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities and Duties</strong></p> <ul> <li>Responsible for key categories within Company’s Supply Chain</li> <li>Manage overall vendor risk and ensure short/long term supply</li> <li>Responsible for analysis of any gaps within Company’s procurement performance and developing and implementing action plans to close the gaps.</li> <li>Responsible for analysis of key data or insights to determine vendor industry trends</li> <li>Foster trust relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of services </li> <li>Place appropriate forecasts and orders to ensure product availability to meet consumer demands while managing sustainable inventory levels</li> <li>Analyze risk(s) associated with brands, vendors, and industries to develop alternate or contingency strategies</li> <li>Put into Action alternate or contingency strategies (as needed) - coordinating with key stakeholders within and outside supply chain organization to ensure a stable supply of products to plants and customers.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Identify leverage opportunities, collaborate with buyers, and provide assistance to negotiate contracts, supply agreements and review vendor industry trends.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Establish packaging specifications and maintain current specs within internal systems</li> <li>Conduct value analysis and evaluate/recommend new and/or alternative packaging</li> <li>Assist with Supply Chain and stakeholders for new business opportunities.</li> <li>Assist plants with inventory control (as needed)</li> <li>Maintain monthly tracking documents for all raw material purchases</li> <li>Recommend and qualify supplier(s)</li> <li>Negotiate supplier claims (as needed)</li> <li>Conduct supplier audits (as needed)</li> <li>Process all credits in a timely manner and review outstanding credit request on a quarterly basis </li> </ul> <p><strong>Experience and Educational Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>Four to Seven years’ experience with multi-plant responsibility</li> <li>Experience negotiating on a regional and national level</li> <li>Preferred four-year college degree</li> <li>Computer skills to include TMS, ERP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, BI Tools, etc. </li> </ul> <p><strong>Abilities Required</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people and personalities.</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li> <li>Must be able to take direction and work well with others.</li> <li>Must be able to work under the stress of deadlines.</li> <li>Must be able to concentrate and perform accurately.</li> </ul> Adams Keegan Memphis TN
