POSITION SUMMARY

Facilitates day-to-day departmental operations, including staffing and staff performance, patient care flow, patient care quality and satisfaction, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees daily operation of departments (Including: Post Surgical Unit, Resource/Float, Rapid Evaluation Unit, and Medical Care Unit). Collaborates with charge nurses to ensure effective patient care and smooth running of units; problem-solves as needed

  • Serves as a clinical resource for staff

  • Assists in developing and approving departmental schedules; assists with ensuring daily staffing needs are met

  • Periodically rounds with staff and providers, as well as initiating focused rounds when indicated and upon request

  • Attends/contributes to staff, physician, and organization-wide committees, as appropriate and as requested

  • Oversees time and attendance of staff, including initiation of appropriate disciplinary action related to punctuality and absences

  • Assists with selection and manages training of department staff

  • Establishes, implements, and maintains evidence-based policies and procedures

  • Continually evaluates staff performance completing probation and yearly evaluations

  • Participates with manager in rewarding, mentoring, and coaching of staff

  • Collaborates with manager and/or director in documentation and delivery of formal staff evaluations, including any subsequent performance improvement plans or disciplinary actions

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in department related to patient care flow and processes; collaborates with manager to establish performance improvement plans

  • Collaborates with manager and director to develop and implement departmental budgets, including capital and operations

  • Gathers data needed to evaluate progress toward established quality/performance improvement goals and plans

  • Promotes a culture of safety

  • Oversees quality projects as requested

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support card, or obtain within 60 days of hire

  • Bachelors in Nursing or related field, or currently working to complete program preferred

  • Masters in health related field preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years recent clinical experience in acute care

  • Strong background in/knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations preferred

POSITION SUMMARY Under supervision of a Pharmacist and a Certified Pharmacy Technician, trains to fill unit dose orders and maintain records of patient's use as well as more complex duties throughout the training process with goal of becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Answers telephone, receiving and relaying messages as needed; performs clerical functions * Utilizes computer systems for review and revision of medication to the patient's pharmacy profile * Performs inventory record keeping, and activities concerning billing of medications to a patient's profile * Watches inventory levels to assist with maintenance of efficient inventory management * Prepares labels for patient items to be sent to patient care areas * Adds intravenous medication to intravenous solutions, and prepares piggyback intravenous bottles/bags/ADD-vantage system with appropriate labeling, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures * Consults with pharmacists and other pharmacy staff to perform daily functions and work duties * Places unit dose packaged medications in patient's cassette drawer, patient bin, and automated dispensing system * Refills patient medication carts drawers and automated dispensing system pockets * Dispenses outpatient medication refills under direct supervision of a pharmacist * Prepares extemporaneous and STAT single doses of medications * Serves as courier for deliveries and retrieval of orders/medications * Cleans IV hoods on a routine schedule * Reviews computer system for accurate allergy information for individual patients * Attends department staff meetings and in-services * Files physician's orders, interdepartmental transactions, memoranda to maintain an accurate and clean work area * Handles hazardous materials (e.g., chemotherapy medication), if applicable for role * Picks up medications from community pharmacies for urgent patient care needs Minimum Requirements SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position * Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment * Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public * Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision * Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Valid Oregon Pharmacy Technician License (High School Diploma or Equivalent required for license) * Attempt to pass a national certification exam through NHA (ExCPT) or PTCB and comply with NHA or PTCB's requirements at 6 months * Completion of medical terminology course or experience in related medical position preferred GENERAL INFORMATION Union Affiliation: UFCW The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
