The Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) team is based within the Gigafactory (Tesla's product manufacturing and assembly plant) and is responsible for investigating, containing, resolving, and recovering costs from supplier caused part quality issues; supporting supplier parts and parts packaging and handling qualification; and developing, driving and/or supporting continuous improvement activities. Reporting directly to the SQE team manager, the Quality Systems and Data Supplier Quality Engineer will work cross-functionally and leverage their QMS, operations and data analysis expertise to help develop, implement, drive and track supplier quality assurance courses of action and continuously optimize operational performance.

  • Develop, implement and improve operational processes and supplier part quality assurance courses of action to resolve deficiencies and optimize performance; mitigate product launch risks; and maintain production targets and uptime
  • Facilitate and lead meetings with stakeholders (as required) to align, develop, implement and optimize operations and associated training. Track and report on courses of action taken and resulting outcomes. Review and assess program plans, plan for every part, and Tesla Qualification Process (= PPAP) status for risk and work with stakeholders to develop, implement and track risk mitigation plans. Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to optimize performance
  • Develop, implement and continuously optimize data visualization tools to be used for showcasing and tracking SQE team tasks and operational performance
  • Conduct investigations to identify and/or confirm potential and escalated supplier quality issues; develop and implement immediate countermeasures to quickly resolve supplier quality spills and prevent production downtime; create sustainable countermeasure requirements (including scope of work, standardized work instructions, PPE, tools, equipment, and cycle time) to maintain production uptime and train Quality Inspection team and their 3rd parties to execute them
  • Issue and drive supplier corrective action requests (SCAR) to initiate and track to closure supplier's containment actions, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventative action identification and implementation; conducts part quality audits and trials at the component, subsystem and/or system level to confirm/verify supplier's implemented containment actions and corrective & preventative actions are effective; reviews supplier's root cause analysis and corrective and preventative actions for problem resolution adequacy and efficacy and provides feedback to them and their assigned Supplier Industrialization Engineer for correction, as required
  • Support part and packaging trials driven by new product launches, design changes, and/or Supplier (process) changes at the component, subsystem and/or system levels within the Gigafactory to verify, validate and provide feedback on quality impacts
  • Provide operations optimization and quality assurance support at supplier locations, other Gigafactories and/or Tesla warehouses/operating sites, as required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, evidence of experience and exceptional ability, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of industry experience in vehicle component, sub-system or system design, quality assurance & control, validation, production, manufacturing engineering and/or combination thereof
  • 3+ years proven experience leading and collaborating on operational process and procedure development, training and execution
  • Must have in-depth, working knowledge of operations management and data analytics tools (SQL, Tableau, Python, Power BI); deep understanding of QMS, APQP, PPAP, GD&T, AAR, SPC, PFMEAs, Control plans and problem-solving methodologies
  • Possess demonstrable leadership, project management, and cross functional collaboration and teambuilding skills; proven results directing internal, supplier and 3rd party activities and meeting customer requirements and expectations
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities, ambiguity and thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment with minimal to no direction; strong technical comprehension and oral & written communication skills; understands technical issues and able to explain them in a concise and plain manner to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Able to travel (up to 35%) internationally
