Hybrid:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
Responsible for specifying Seat Appearance requirements, execution and evaluation of designs, analysis, development, testing and control of major engineering projects where creativity and initiative is necessary as well as a high level of independent judgment. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel.
What You'll Do:
Craftsmanship
Attend SDIT Meetings (Seat Design Integration Team) to ensure designs are manufacturable at the earliest stages of design.
Activity SQE Voice as in Seat Best Practice Team. Creating robust design practices for a quality product.
Review of GM DFMEA to Tier 1 DFMEA and Tier 2 Trim Plant PFMEA/Control Plans. Assist in Gap Analysis.
Trouble shoot craftsmanship issues that arise primarily in the seat group, but also in the interiors group. Work with GM Design/Engineering and Suppliers to resolve those issues.
Conduct audits of Trim Plants: Walk the line and review processes and controls.
Conduct line walks at the JIT (seat assembly plants) to observe and critique builds.
Attend Seat Appearance Reviews at all stages of the development process
Maintain Seat Appearance SharePoint site
Participate in Warranty Work Cell- help determine the root cause of warranty issues
Materials
Member of Materials PDT (Product Development Team)
Work with Materials Engineering, Trim Engineering, and Design Quality to revise Materials SORs (Statement of Requirements)
Quality representative on Materials Tech Review Team
Participate in AARs (Appearance Approval Review) for color harmony.
Conduct audits of Materials Plants: Walk the line and review processes and controls
Quality representative on material business transfer moves
Create and execute Commodities Audits such as the Materials Lamination Audit
Coordinating Global Audits with SQE's in other regions
Involved in the Sustainable Materials Team
Fabrication
Pattern Design, cut, sew, and build seats and panels for concept vehicles, color and trim bucks, and clinic bucks.
Installation of carpet and headliners.
Hand and numerical control cutting and skiving of foam and other materials.
The fabrication of sample boards for the Color and Trim Studio.
Extensive work with show coordination in the detailing of show properties
Back Up Leader for Trim Shop
Interact with other fabrication shops, studios, Show Coordination and Project Lead personnell
Problem solving dealing with Trim Shop employees, internal customers, and
Technology Lead
A firm grasp on the software used including Rhino, Visual Mill, Techno, WinCNC, and the Eastman Software Suite
Data management skills.
Ability to multitask by running up to 3 machines at one time.
Keep the Project Leads and Studio Personnel up to date on the progress of jobs.
Teacher/Trainer - Train co-workers in the trim shop on the technology-based equipment. This includes training in the use of the software and programming as well as in the safe operation of the machines

Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree is required. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing, Welding, Plastics, Materials, Chemical preferred) or an equivalent Technical Degree such as Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics is acceptable
Minimum 5 years experience in quality, engineering and/or manufacturing.
Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.
Proficient knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).
Proficient knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.
Proficient ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
Proficient ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.
High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
Ability to travel up to 50% (domestic and international).
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Master's degree in Business or Engineering is a plus
Technical and Quality Certifications are a plus
Three or more years' OEM or Tier 1 experience in automotive quality, manufacturing or engineering functions, including demonstrated experience and capability in any of the following areas:
Statistical Problem Solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC).
Product Engineering
Lean Manufacturing and or Manufacturing Quality.
Manufacturing, Process and or Tool Engineering.
Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP.
