Duties

Summary

This position is located in the Logistics Management Service of the VA Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA.

Responsibilities

Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting and adjusting short term priorities, and preparing schedules for the completion of work;
Developing and executing staff training and evaluating work performance of subordinates;
Providing advice, counsel, or instruction on technical and administrative matters;
Hearing and resolving complaints from employees;
Recommending awards or bonuses for personnel and changes in position classification;
Promoting team building and improving practices;
Directing and overseeing the management and distribution of all supplies and material for the health care system;
Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services;
Monitoring expiration dates, rotating stock, and removing items from use as require by outdates;
Ensuring critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled;
Distributing items according to established or ad hoc requirements using the generic inventory package (GIP);
Delivering supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition;
Preparing and stocking specialty carts;
Cleaning assigned areas according to aseptic principles and infection control guidelines;
Directing and overseeing the receipt of supplies and material;
Performing related duties as required.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:30pm

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position.

To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. Specialized experience includes: overseeing the maintenance of stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for clinical and/or administrative services; utilizing a computerized inventory system and ensuring data integrity; cataloging data on supply levels and replenishment needs for new items; expediting the delivery of urgently needed items; conducting market research on all new products; analyzing several reports in order to manage and control the fund control points limitations; analyzing and developing procedures to resolve issues and recommending or implementing changes to improve the effectiveness of supply distribution. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.

Physical Requirements:
The work of this position requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending, and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). The work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing 100 pounds or more). With proper assistance, the Supervisory Supply Technician moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.

The work is performed throughout the medical center and supported catchment areas, which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. The possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury are present in the day-to-day work of the position.

The work requires stocking supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous warehouses and nursing areas.

The Supervisory Supply Technician will maintain a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments. Supported units may be offsite requiring roundtrip travel time in excess of 90 minutes.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.

VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
