The Supervisory Physician performs direct medical care and assists the Chief & Assistant Chief of Primary Care in supervising the Primary Care Service providers at the Sacramento Medical Center clinic. The clinic is a hub site serving over 22,000 Veterans with 20 primary care teams including 'specialty Patient Aligned Care team (PACTs)' devoted to the care of women Veterans, homeless Veterans, and Veterans with injuries & diseases of the spinal cord.
The provider supports process improvement activities, health promotion/disease prevention activities, and completes clinical charting/documentation in an appropriate & timely manner utilizing an EMR.
The provider will maintain proficiency with electronic dashboards & data repositories to review & address key service performance measures & conform to the VA Opioid Safety Initiative.
As a Supervisor, the provider will be responsible for the training, orientation and clinical oversight of the medical providers that he/she supervises. The Supervisor also serves as a role model, ideally utilizing a transformational leadership style. The Supervisor will be responsible for various administrative tasks associated with the role, to include:Assistance with management of staff leave requests and electronic maintenance of time & attendance.
Performing OPPE process including contribution to provider performance reviews & evaluations semi-annually.
Working collaboratively with Nursing & Clerical managers on site; attending daily huddles, weekly operational meetings & monthly service meetings.
Participation in the recruitment, interviewing & selection processes of new providers.
Evaluation of competencies of newly hired/assigned personnel and orientation of staff to policies/procedures of the clinic & health system.
Conducting staff meetings and coordinating in-services/trainings for clinical employees.
Supporting Service Chiefs by effecting all facility & departmental policies.
Collaborating with Service Chiefs on the development of work standards, evaluation of employee performance, & identification of training needs.
Investigation and resolution of informal staff complaints and grievances.
Collaborating with Service Chiefs on personnel management, to include employee counseling, participation in management inquiries, and coordination with HR on proposal of personnel actions.
Collaborating with Patient Experience Office in review of patient satisfaction (PATS) data and relevant process improvements; to include development and implementation of relevant action plans to improve the Veteran Experience.
Adopting the championship of key service performance metrics.
Active participation in process improvement/RPIE or RPIWs; including working directly with Office of Organization Improvement (OOI) to enhance the effectiveness of the clinic.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
