Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its affiliated clinics and dental clinic are located at Fort Lewis, Washington, near the city of Tacoma. Madigan AMC is one of only three designated Level Two trauma centers within the U.S. Medical Command.

Responsibilities

Incumbent works under the administrative supervision of the Group Practice Manager and the clinical supervision of the Chief, Internal Medicine Service. Performs in accordance with policies and guidelines established by supervisor. Exercises independent judgment with full responsibility for professional diagnosis, treatment, referral and disposition of patients.

1.Serves as a board certified Internal Medicine Physician. Scope of services include, but are not limited to, examination, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of medical, surgical, obstetric, gynecological, and orthopedic care.

Takes ownership, responsibility for care of assigned panel of patients. Provides first contact, continuous, comprehensive primary care for infants, children, youth, and adults according to current standards of care, the patient centered medical home model of care, and Army policy and relevant regulations.

Leads a multi-disciplinary team of individuals who collectively take responsibility for the ongoing care of patients. Coordinates and/or integrates care across all elements of the healthcare system (e.g., subspecialty care, hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes) and the patient's community (e.g., family, public and private community). Completes required records pertaining to all medical services provided in accordance with specified procedures and regulations.

Teaches and provides consultation to other health care providers as assigned.

Participates in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and quality assurance activities as assigned.

2.Supervises other health care providers as assigned. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

Provide technical oversight. Develop performance plans and rate employees. Interview candidates for subordinate positions; recommend hiring, promotion, or reassignments.

Take disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands. Identify developmental and training needs of employees; provide and/or arrange for needed development and training.

PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

Qualifications

Must be a US Citizen

Must be board eligible/board certified.

• Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

• Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training.

• Licensure/Certification: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

For a GP-15, applicants must have 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

Also, the incumbent will be part of a neurology residency training program and will take part in teaching residents, staffing the resident outpatient clinic and inpatient consult service (staffing inpatient consult service is two weeks at a time and done 3-4 time per year. It is only during those two week periods that they pull call … and this is at-home call).
