This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) (OASD(HA)), Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Health Services Policy and Oversight. The (OASD(HA)) mission is to provide for and to maintain readiness, medical services, and support to members of the armed services during military operations, and to provide medical services and support to members of the armed services, their family members, and others entitled to DoD care.
Your typical work assignments may include the following:
Provides professional medical expertise and policy guidance for the execution of the Department's medical mission, with responsibility for the development of clinical programs, initiatives, and policies
Conducts medical research, analyses, and reviews to recommend the establishment, modification, and maintenance of directives, instructions, and policy memoranda that pertain to clinical programs in the military health system (MHS)
Provides expert and current advice and analysis for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Health Services Policy including developing policies and overseeing clinical programs
Oversees and coordinates development of policy and DoD Directives for clinical programs
Assesses current policy directives and statements and makes appropriate recommendations for improvement with respect to the military departments and DoD agencies concerning the access and quality of care provided to beneficiaries of the MHS
Serve as supervisor of OSD(HA) Health Services Policy and Oversight (HSPO) staff and manage day to day operations of the Office of the DASD HSPO
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination; AND

One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GP-14) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in: providing medical advice and information to senior leaders for the development of policy and resolution of high-profile issues; researching medical literature, data analysis, and reviews for the establishment, modification, and maintenance of directives, instructions and policy memoranda; reviewing and analyzing complex medical issues and recommends legislative amendments, regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures relating to Military Health Systems (MHS) issues; and analyzing and implementing policies and regulations relative to accession medical standards, occupational health, or disability evaluation.
