Responsibilities

As a Supervisory IT Specialist of the Texas Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Directs IT services for the Texas Water Science Center, including remote field offices to comply with program requirements and meeting customer needs.

  • Supervises the IT Section staff including performance, evaluation, and employee development needs.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the Center's current network systems for security, capacity, scalability and future requirements. Recommends optimal solutions.

  • Reviews Center's SOPs, plans, and documentation.

  • Evaluates security operations ensuring Center compliance with Bureau and Department requirements.

  • Develops, tests, implements plans, and maintains written documentation for installing and maintaining IT physical and virtual systems, telecommunication hardware, systems software, and application programs.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

  • This position requires completion of a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period, if one has not previously been completed.

  • Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.

  • If you are qualifying based on specialized experience, you must meet the requirements listed below and have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Examples include: Experience with physical Data Center management including planning and coordination of the installation, upgrade, optimization, backups, and maintenance of Data Center and field office server hardware, software, and network systems; experience with Data Center virtualization tools, technologies, and approaches including Hyper-V virtual machines and cloud storage and computing; experience with system administration of an enterprise LAN including network diagnostics, traffic pattern analysis, and overall performance including network hubs, switches, and routers, as well as network resource allocation and configuration for a public-facing DMZ in support of a reimbursable web application program; experience with formulating and executing innovative approaches for the resolution of complex and intricate hardware and application software issues and problems in developing and recommending solutions that consider time, cost, and resource availability; and experience with configuring and troubleshooting enterprise systems management tools, directory services, database platforms, and operating systems including but not limited to SCCM, BigFix, Active Directory, SQL Server, Windows, and UNIX environments.
