What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a time limited assignment not-to-exceed 1 year, that may be extended within regulatory time limits or made permanent without further competition or terminated at management discretion. At the end of the assignment, you will be returned to a position equivalent in tenure and grade as your former position.

Salary: $86,962 (Step 1) to $113,047 (Step 10)

As a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician within the Washington Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Serve as the field office supervisor of the Mid-Columbia Field Office responsible for ensuring satisfactory completion of administrative and technical activities of staff.

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate personnel in fundamental field data collection and calculation of hydrologic records.

  • Ensure all hydrologic data provided to the public and cooperating agencies is timely and accurate for assigned office.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and leader in the collection and computation of hydrologic field data within geographic area of responsibility.

  • Analyze, approve, and audit hydrologic data collected and processed by technical staff to assure acceptable accuracy, conformance to technical standards, and adherence to deadlines.

  • Develop and maintain cooperative relations with local, State, and Federal government agencies, Tribal Nations, and USGS programs concerned with the development and operation of hydrologic networks.

  • Operate a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.

Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-12 level:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include: planning and conducting the computation and collection of data from approximately thirty or more gaging stations; determining stage-discharge relations, computing rating tables and mean daily, monthly and annual discharge rates from these stations. Acting as a party chief and making indirect measurements of flood flows under extremely difficult conditions. Collecting data including that required to compute flood flows by the slope-area method, by measurement of flow over dams, by flow through culverts and by flow over embankments. Obtaining hydrologic data from published and unpublished sources and conducting hydrologic studies relative to the frequency of flood and droughts. Planning and coordinating a ground water survey program for an area that may be either a small area with complex features or a larger area with planning and coordinating problems related to the scope of the ground water survey operations.
