Duties

This position is located under the Office of Field Operations-NCETR, Canine Academy Branch located in Front Royal, Virginia.

The Incumbent manages the NCETR- Canine Academy Branch responsible for criminal investigations, law enforcement programs, functions, or operations encompassing the overall law enforcement mission of the organization to which assigned. Provides investigative expertise and oversight for criminal investigations and organizational performance relating to law enforcement programs.

MOBILITY PLAN: New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. To accomplish these objectives, the mobility plan will facilitate the movement of employees through special short-term assignments or permanent reassignments throughout the Bureau. Key Requirements:

  • Pass drug screening and subject to random drug test.

  • Time in Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of the vacancy.

  • Requires proficiency with a firearm per ATF's Standard.

  • May be required to serve a 1-year probationary period.

Qualifications

To qualify for GS-14, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Providing accurate information and guidance regarding procedures (i.e. arrest and processing; arrest principles);

  • Handling of evidence and dangerous material;

  • Applying relevant laws, regulations and policies to investigative resources and techniques (i.e. ATF Giglio Policy);

  • Providing leadership to others such as workgroups, teams or special projects;

  • Communicating orally and in writing (i.e. reports and briefings); and

  • Negotiating and collaborating with others (i.e. interacting with other law enforcement agency (state, local or federal)
