Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES1. Serves as a Clinical Supervisor in Behavioral Health.

Supervises assigned professional and paraprofessional employees. Functions as the authoritative source of information for the specialty of Psychology. Knowledgeable of all new material related to specialization.

Provides guidance to the hospital commander regarding policy in Psychology issues. Personal contacts are with military and community leaders, social workers, psychiatrists, other physicians, nurses, other hospital personnel, court representatives and educators. Provides command consultations from the company level through the installation level, as needed.Provides individual, couple, family, and/group psychological counseling utilizing a variety of treatment modalities primarily to adult patients presenting to the Department of Behavioral Health with a wide range of emotional and BH disorders.

Treats the most severe, difficult and complex variations of adult psychological dysfunction.Selects, administers, scores, and interprets objective and projective psychological tests for the purpose of assessing patient's cognitive, psycho-educational, emotional personality, vocational, and neuropsychological functioning. Integrates the results of test data with psycho diagnostic interview data and data from other sources to formulate diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and recommendations.Participates with other professional staff in providing emergency behavioral health services on a scheduled, rotating, on-call basis to patients during both normal and other-than-normal duty hours to include screening patients for appropriateness of psychiatric hospitalization.Provides psychological and clinical consultation to other professionals and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels. Coordinates with a variety of agencies to assist with the multidisciplinary treatment of patients.

These contacts may include, but are not limited to social work, nursing, the community counseling center, the exceptional family member program, command, and legal or other community agencies. Will interact with military commanders and be able to provide extensive knowledge of Soldiering and the deployment missions.Conducts psychological autopsies, Temporary Disabled Retirement List (TDRL), evaluations, medical boards, sanity boards, security clearances, and fitness for duty evaluations; specifically, can a Soldier function in his/her Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and deploy to a peace keeping mission or combat situation.Exercises the skill, capability and knowledge to function as a leader for both military and garrison operations in the absence of active-duty officers.Teaches classes, such as Suicide Prevention, Stress Management, Mental Status Evaluation, and Deployment Briefings. Must have a thorough understanding of the soldering mission and ability to communicate this knowledge to all commanders.Participates in the Military Health Services (MHS) Continuous Quality Improvement Process.

On a rotating basis, functions as action officer for solving quality improvement problems. Documents all work in a clear, communicable and timely fashion meeting all US Army, Professional, and MHS standards. Participates in both administrative and professional staff meetings.2.

Supervises military personnel, federal civilian employees, and oversees contractor performance assigned to the Clinic. For military and civilian personnel, the incumbent plans and organizes work to be accomplished, establishes priorities, makes assignments, monitors progress in terms of timeliness and accuracy of work performed, makes temporary reassignment of employees between jobs to meet workload demands. Establishes performance standards and prepares performance appraisals.

Provides guidance, gives advice, counsel or instruction to employees on both technical and administrative matters. Makes decisions on work problems presented by employees, and hears and resolves group grievances and effects disciplinary action such as warnings and reprimands involving nonsupervisory subordinates and recommends action in more serious cases. Interviews and recommends candidates for vacant positions.

Recommends awards or bonuses for employees and changes in position classification. Identifies and recommends developmental and training needs of employees. Accomplishes reviews for improvement of performance to ensure the most effective and efficient operation.

Instructs on new and existing policies and procedures and assists in interpreting and applying regulatory guidance. Tracts expenditures, manages the budget, and accounts for all Service equipment. Assures military personnel are in compliance with Company directives and rosters.PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting biopsychosocial evaluations for children, adolescents or adults; providing individual and/or group psychological counseling; and developing behavioral health treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
