Under general supervision the Transportation Supervisor oversees and manages the daily functions and operations of street maintenance, signal maintenance, and signs & markings (depending on area of assignment).
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties
Supervises assigned staff including hiring, evaluating performance, coaching, training, recommending dismissal and completing/approving timesheets and leave requests; ensures staff have the knowledge, skills, and equipment necessary to perform their tasks.
Investigates customer complaints; reviews plans on future projects; collaborates with the Transportation Superintendent and Transportation Engineers; schedules work and projects; works with various engineers and project managers on CIP; reviews through GIS; coordinates projects.
Answers phone; responds to emails; receives and reviews work requests.
Responds to man-made and natural emergencies; manages tasks for response; assists in traffic control for emergencies and special events.
Makes recommendations for equipment supplies; purchases equipment; maintains statements of credit cards purchases monthly.
Handles city contracts by getting bids for various maintenance contracts; schedules meeting with contractors on defined areas; hires contractors for projects; reviews plans for projects.
Experience and Training
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Four (4) years of directly related work experience.
Experience as a supervisor or lead preferred.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must hold the following certifications:
International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone Certification
Backhoe Certification
Skid Steer Certification
Must hold the following certifications, depending on area of assignment
APWA Concreate Certification or obtained within one year
APWA Storm water Manager Certification or obtained within one year
IMSA Level 2 Certification Traffic Signal Operations
IMSA Level 2 Certification Traffic Signs and Markings
This position may require you to have or acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal law requires all CDL holders register with the USDOT Clearinghouse before operating a commercial vehicle. You will be required to enroll in the clearinghouse and sign a consent form allowing the City to run your name through the clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
