Supervisor - Utility System Mechanic

Description

Under general supervision, the Utility System Mechanic supervises the System Mechanics or other personnel in inspecting, testing, repairing and servicing distribution equipment at treatment plants, pump stations, storage sites, control valve sites and air release locations. Orders and stocks necessary parts, and ensures site maintenance.

Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

Examples of Duties

• Supervises System Mechanics by scheduling and assigning duties, assisting in job training, monitoring work performed, lining up parts and equipment for work to be performed, maintaining schedules for on call, sick and vacation, and conducting performance reviews. Conducts monthly training meetings and all safety trainings for assigned staff.

• Performs field work and on call work by assisting with daily operations, including making all chemical deliveries for the Water Treatment Plant. Performs site maintenance on all sites, assists employees with jobs when issues arise, assists the Water Treatment Plant with plant related work, repairs equipment, valves and motors including motor control centers, and responds to call outs for equipment down and power outages.

• Performs administrative duties by writing purchase requests, working with vendors for equipment and repairs, organizing equipment maintenance for regular preventive maintenance, filing and managing records, answering customer calls for system related problems and monitoring budget for appropriate funds when making transactions.

Experience and Training

• High School Diploma or GED. At least six months of advanced study or training at a community college or a vocational, business, technical or correspondence school is preferred.

• Five (5) or more years of experience in utility systems maintenance or a similar position.

Certificates and Licenses Required

• Class C Surface Water or Water Distribution license required.

• Class B Water license required or ability to obtain within one year after hire.
