Work days: Tues- Saturday

Directs and supervises the work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates within the transportation department.

Ensures all drivers and other transportation department associates are appropriately trained in job duties as well as safety and legal responsibilities.

Anticipates, analyzes and troubleshoots problems with deliveries and devises cost-effective and legal solutions; and acts to implement same.

Schedules drivers for routes based on division devised methodology.

Conducts routine Safety and Driver Meetings.

Create an atmosphere in which upward communication is encouraged and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives

Ensure maintenance of driver qualification files.

Investigates all accidents, maintains an accident file, tracks causes and takes appropriate preventative action.

Education/Training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.

Related Experience:

  • Must possess a minimum of 4 years transportation/delivery experience required
  • 1 year of experience managing a hourly workforce required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to openly and effectively communicate with all associates.

  • Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) i.e. XATA, and tools used to perform the job.

  • Must be able to perform all job functions safely.

  • Must be able to work the scheduled/assigned times and required overtime for the position.

  • Must know/have ability to learn MSDS information regarding all material used within the scope of the work.

  • Understand and interpret DOT and other state and federal regulations.

Examples of Duties * Operates motor coaches. * Opens doors for passengers boarding and exiting vehicles. * Operates wheelchair lifts. * Cycles wheelchair lift upon pulling out and pulling into the garage. * Monitors passengers depositing fares and ensures correct amounts are deposited in fare box. * Issues, receives and validates transfers. * Prepares and issues refund slips. * Announces streets and stop locations. * Provides information and directions to passengers. * Adjusts route and destination signs and route numbers. * Maintains cleanliness of vehicle. * Removes snow, ice or slush from steps and platforms. * Maintains proper lighting, heating and ventilation in vehicle. * Reviews bulletin boards at terminal daily for route changes, detours, policy changes and other announcements. * Prepares and completes trip sheets, accident reports and other forms and submits to appropriate personnel. * Instructs students on the operation of transportation equipment. * Ensures vehicle is serviced when driving into service areas. * Conducts pre- and post-trip coach inspections. * Transfers coaches to alternative terminals. * Maintains established route schedule. Minimum Qualifications * Completion of high school or G.E.D. * Valid Michigan Commercial Driver License with Group A or B designation and Passenger and Air Brake endorsements preferred. *CDL's must have Passenger and Airbrake Endorsement.* * Preferably two years of experience operating automotive vehicles, as demonstrated by a State Driving Record. * All applicants must have a valid Operators license (at minimum) at the point of hire (certification). All applicants must be have a Valid State of Michigan Chauffeur Learning Permit (CLP) no later than 14 (fourteen days) after their Hire Date, with the following endorsements: Either Class A (Bus); Class B, with P for Passenger and Air Brakes. All applicants are encouraged to visit there local Michigan Secretary of State Office at the earliest possible date in order to inquire about the CDL Process. Any applicants that have had their license suspended and/or revoked within the last 3 (three) years may be ineligible to obtain their CDL-these applicants should visit their Local Secretary of State in order to inquire about their ability to obtain a CDL based upon their Driving Record.
