Position Summary:

As a Transportation Supervisor, you will support all functions of the Transportation Department. You will manage drivers, routes, deliveries, maintenance, security and safety, and other transportation related functions to create direct contributions to the division and to customers' experiences. A successful candidate will have effectively demonstrated an ability to continuously build better service, manage daily processes, and instill a culture of innovation.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Creating and administering daily routing and truck scheduling.

  • Monitoring and coordinating maintenance, fueling, and specialty needs.

  • Scheduling vehicle repairs, arranging temporary vehicles, and maintaining requisite DOT reporting.

  • Monitoring drivers and insuring all drivers are properly trained and possess necessary skills.

  • Assisting in the coordination of driver training and testing.

  • Ensuring application of safety, accident-prevention standards, methods, and procedures.

  • Collaborating in the development and implementation of infrastructure and process guidelines.

  • Driving efficiencies within the department and increase division performance against key metrics.

  • Discovering opportunities to improve routing operations and increase back-haul revenues.

  • Promoting and managing safety at all levels of the operation

  • Leading and conducting performance management to foster departmental growth of personnel.

  • Participating in the selection, hiring, and employee relations of department personnel.

  • Completing paperwork such as: evaluations, accident/injury logs, and other reports and records.

  • Assisting in the payroll process of drivers.

Skills & Experiences:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

  • Minimum of 2 years of transportation experience.

  • Possessing a Class A CDL preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation regulations.

  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft office applications such as Word and Excel.

  • Ability to manage routing and distribution, and logistic computer software.

  • Ability to analyze, critically evaluate situations, and communicate effectively.

Physical Demands &Working Conditions:

  • Physical ability to handle objects, tools, and/or controls.

  • Physical ability to lift, unload, and carry totes and bundles up to 30 lbs. repetitively and up to 60 lbs. occasionally, push up to 50 lbs., and move a dolly loaded with up to 250 lbs.

  • Physical ability to stand for a significant period of time and walk continuously on occasion through Physical ability to occasionally bend, kneel, or reach may be required on occasion.

  • Exposure to a variety of environmental conditions: weather, temperature, lighting, and noise as determined by circumstances at accounts within assigned territory.

VIEW JOBS 3/27/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-25T00:00 Summary Ensure driver compliance on all Associated Grocers, Transportation and DOT policies and procedures. Communicate with Transportation Manager on all Retailer, Fleet Maintenance and OBC (on-board computer) issues. Ensure Transportation Department provides excellent service to the retail members, while maintaining the lowest operational costs possible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Regularly perform dispatch supervisor function to ensure on-time deliveries, i.e. Same Day, Extra Deliveries, Vacation coverage. * Notify stores of any transportation issues that may affect their deliveries or delivery schedule. * Work closely with Returns and Customer Service departments to resolve delivery and driver issues. * Review Ultipro times for all drivers to ensure proper attendance, payroll accuracy and DOT compliance. * Complete all necessary paperwork pertaining to driver supervision. (Probation Forms, Status Change Forms, Attendance Paperwork, Vacation Requests, etc.) * Edit driver sessions in the OBC recorder, and counsel drivers on proper use of On-Board Computer system. * Perform Vehicle Accident Reports and all necessary paperwork involved. Forward all paperwork to necessary personnel. * Make store visits as directed by Transportation Manager. Perform driver and stores audits, and complete all necessary paperwork. Forward audit reports to necessary personnel. * Compile information from various sources to provide key reports to be utilized to manage transportation department. (On-time delivery, Delivery Receipts, etc.) * Provide assistance to member retailers with all transportation issues. * Counsel and coach drivers as needed. * Perform related tasks as assigned by supervisor. (Fleet Maintenance, OBC maintenance and issues, Delivery Unload Program, etc.) * Ensure fleet readiness through coordination of fleet maintenance, repairs and DOT compliance. * Assist in compiling equipment specifications and preparing bids for all equipment purchases. * Perform routing function in Roadshow route scheduling program. * Maintain and distribute On-Time Delivery reports as requested. * Maintain on-board computer hardware and troubleshoot systems issues. * Schedule maintenance and installation of on-board computers. * Post and maintain driver bids, and maintain driver schedules. * Review all Delivery Receipts for delivery unloading standard accuracy. Communicate and resolve all discrepancies in the unloading standards. * Monitor and control running hours of refrigeration equipment to control fuel and maintenance costs. * Supervise part or fulltime clerical personnel to ensure accuracy and productivity. Education and /or Experience Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer Skills * Proficient in Micro Soft Office Suite to include: Access, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Other Skills and Abilities * One through two years transportation experience. * Knowledge of DOT regulations. * Good verbal and written communication skills. * Previous supervision experience. * Clear motor vehicle report. * Presentation skills before small groups up to 25 people.
