JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for directing the functions of the Central Sterile Processing department and maintains a consistent high standard of sterilization and supplies for all areas serviced throughout the Health System. The Central Sterile Supervisor Assures that the department will meet or exceed the JCAHO requirements and be maintained in a cost-effective manner.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS# Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties: Maintains continued education in the field of sterile processing and equipment through education, literature, and seminars. Provides instructions and in service in new products, procedures, and equipment in a manner that will identify and prevent resource loss and maintains safety.

Ensures established procedures and standards of practice are followed for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of reusable supplies and equipment and ensures that proper traffic flow patterns are utilized for handling supplies to maintains clean and dirty areas. Establishes internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with set standards.


Establishes par level stock and monitors them for proper utilization


. Assures that the standards of operations of the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies, i.e., HCFA, JCAHO, Department of Health and hold team accountable to those standards. Develops and implements departmental performance improvement activities and assures on going staff participation.

Works with departments served to improve quality and service provided by the department. EDUCATION/LICENSE/#CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS Minimum requirement: High School diploma or GED Achieves and maintains IAHCSMM certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred qualifications: Achieves and maintains IAHCSMM certification as a Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) WORKING ENVIRONMENT This position operates in an indoor environment with stringent personal protective equipment required. Constantly exposed to blood and body fluids.

Frequently exposed to humidity and steam. Constantly works near moving mechanical parts Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Constantly required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) Frequently required to walk and move about throughout the department and areas served.

Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle, clean and operate instruments/devices. Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds. Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.

Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
