Summary:Direct the activities of associates during a specific shift and oversee that assigned job expectations are completed while policy and procedure is maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing training and creating work schedules.

  • Evaluating the performance of workers, rewarding high performers and disciplining employees who fail to meet reasonable standards of work performance.

  • Prepare production or sales reports for management and ensure their unit meets the expectations for quality, productivity and safety.

  • Acts as the contact person for employees with complaints or requests for time off.

  • May act as a mentor, develop employees and encourage workers to set goals and strive for advancement within the organization.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Johnson Controls Wichita builds and assembles some of the biggest HVAC brands in the industry, including York, Luxaire, Coleman, Champion and Guardian. The primary manufacturing campus sits on 63 acres with a total of 1.3 million square feet. It has also translated into large employment growth in Wichita, where its workforce is around 1,600 employees which is up nearly 22 percent year over year. The Wichita manufacturing facility is the largest non-aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita. The Safety Supervisor - 3rd Shift is part of our Unitary Proprietary Groups (UPG) division of Johnson Controls, a fortune 100 company, where we design, manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the residential and light commercial markets. This position will be responsible for handling daily safety duties for multiple buildings on our manufacturing campus and will develop and/or implement activities on a plant-wide basis to assure all employees are provided a safe workplace that achieves world class objectives within Johnson Controls and will ensure compliance with State, Federal, and Corporate regulations and standards. How you will do it * Maintain a current knowledge of all OSHA and EPA regulations. Implement necessary corrective actions that correct and maintain compliance with OSHA standards. * Provides safe equipment and procedures in accordance with company policy and government regulations. * Investigate work-related injuries and illnesses, implement corrective actions that prevent reoccurrence, and prepares required reports and record keeping. * Perform industrial hygiene testing and safety inspections. Develop corrective actions. * Facilitate the effectiveness of employee OHS training and education programs, including OHS training and orientation for new employees, OSHA annual training requirements, and Corporate related training. * Promote safety awareness throughout the facility by visibly being on the floor, talking with employees, and understanding their concerns. * Facilitate the development and implementation of OHS programs including, establishing the roles of others who will assist with (or lead) each program (employee involvement), assuring the development of prioritized action plans with timetables for execution; and participating in the development of plant-specific procedures and methods; * Work within the OHS department as a team member to manage cost-effective ways related to work-related injuries. * Work with department managers and supervisors on corrective action implementation. * First responder. Provide conservative medical care to employees. * Ability to do machine assessments, such as machine guarding. Oversee a site-wide system to identify and evaluate hazards (risks) and implement effective controls (corrective solutions) consistent with Johnson Controls risk management process. * Participate in the review of new / modified equipment, operations, processes, and procedures that may have an impact on employee and equipment safety. What we look for Required: * Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a manufacturing/production environment. * Exposure to OSHA regulations. * Proficiency using MS Office. * Effective interpersonal skills and ability to make decisions and multi-task. * Efficient and professional communication and organization skills. * Strong presentation skills. * Ability to work third shift 10:00PM - 6:00AM. Preferred: * Bachelor's degree. * Safety experience. * Current EMT certification * CPR or first aid experience.
