Job Summary: The Supervisor-RN Cardiovascular Lab is a highly skilled registered nurse that functions effectively in the Cardiovascular Lab in an academic medical center with level one trauma designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center designation, comprehensive stroke center and chest pain center accreditation.

Assists the director in providing administrative, human resource, financial and clinical oversight of nursing practice in CVL. Demonstrates flexibility and advanced critical thinking skills to direct shift operations based on substantial knowledge of cardiovascular nursing standards of practice, state and federal regulations, LLUMC policies, procedures, guidelines, Plans for Provision of Care and Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations. Applies discretion and independent judgment to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality care for stable and unstable patients.

Follows the nursing process to perform simple and complex diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures for all ages of patients with cardiac dysfunction and multiple comorbidities. Scrubs, circulates and/or assists physicians in performing simple and complex diagnostic, interventional, electrophysiology procedures including, but not limited to, cardiac biopsies, right and left heart catheterizations, percutaneous cardiac interventional procedures. Collaborates with the medical director and director in the development of standards of care, patient, family and staff education to address the needs of this specialized patient population.

Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication and documentation. Promotes the empowerment of the nursing profession and excels in implementing new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Facilitates a positive environment and provides hands-on guidance to engage staff in adopting a care delivery model of accountability, empowerment and excellence in practice. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing required, or, Associate's Degree in nursing with a Bachelor's Degree in a non-nursing field and a Master's degree in nursing required.

Minimum of three years nursing experience in critical care or cardiovascular lab required.

Minimum of one year of prior management or supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates proficient competencies in adult critical care nursing and cardiovascular lab procedures.

Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required. Demonstrated leadership, supervision, management and communications skills required.

Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in critical care and cardiovascular lab procedures.

Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required. Basic Arrhythmia Recognition and Treatment (BART) or equivalent course required.
