Qualifications EDUCATION: Associate#s degree. EXPERIENCE: 2 years related experience.

LICENSE/CERT/REG: Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. Valid license in the State of Maryland required.

SKILLS: Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Acts as a liaison with physicians and other departments and resolves functional inconsistencies.

Assists in the development of departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

Participates in departmental corrective action activities and provides appropriate supervision to all departmental staff. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in the development and implementation of competency assessment and validation.

Participates in the development of departmental operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget. Participates in the development, implementation, and monitoring of departmental performance improvement activities. Participates in the selection, training, and orientation of departmental staff. Performs patient care activities as needed.

NICU Therapist - NBRC registry preferred; NBRC Pediatric/Neonatal specialty preferred; Neonatal Resuscitation Program preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Accurately charges for all departmental services in the computer system according to hospital policy and procedure. * Administers drugs per departmental policy and procedure, monitors adverse side effects, and initiates appropriate protocol/response. Assists staff in maintaining accurate orders to prevent medication errors. Utilizes departmental approved protocols and monitors and reports variances in compliance with departmental use of protocols. * Attends all departmental required in-services and 50% of staff meetings. Attends all You First Forums and Town Hall meetings. * Attends ICU rounds or covers for ICU therapist to attend rounds daily. Performs patient transports or covers unit for therapist transporting. * Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Consistently collects, compiles and reports required volume of P.I. data for the department. Reports findings to management and shares with staff results of quality indicators. * Coordinates documents and participates in departmental orientation of new associates. * Demonstrates the ability to recognize and troubleshoot basic problems on all equipment used in any procedure. Demonstrates the ability to perform calibrations on all testing equipment and maintains appropriate records. Maintains Quality Control procedures and records according to department policy and procedure. * Ensures accuracy of treatment board, Kardex/Assignment Book and equitable division of workload for each shift. * Ensures accurate tracking of departmental equipment ie: BIPAPs and ventilators, scanning devices and phones. Reports equipment issues to management as well as Lead Therapist on next shift. Holds shift accountable for passing equipment shift to shift. * Ensures BIPAP/Ventilator tracking reports are accurate. * Functions as a clinical liaison between cardiopulmonary staff, physicians, and nursing staff when patient care issues are involved. * Initiates and or reviews all new therapy starts within 24 hours to ensure compliance with departmental protocols. Evaluates out-comes of all Respiratory Care interventions and reports all variances from accepted standard to appropriate hospital personnel and Cardiopulmonary management. * Maintains the ability to perform per departmental standards the following diagnostic/therapeutic modalities: SaO2 monitoring/trending, apnea monitoring, capnography monitoring/trending, weaning parameters, BIPAP/CPAP, and performs clinical/diagnostic cardiopulmonary skills. Maintains the ability to utilize all departmental ventilators with current modalities. * Performs basic CPR, institutes fire plan, and participates in disaster plan initiation. Adheres to departmental/hospital infection control policies (standard precautions, equipment change policy, etc.) and attends all hospital and regulatory agency in-services. Attends Rapid Response calls or delegates as necessary. * Performs other duties as assigned. * Performs patient assessment, prescribes therapy, and modifies treatment according to policy, procedure, and guidelines. Monitors staff for completion of patient assessments and reports variances to management. * Provides patient and family education and performs patient assessment according to hospital guidelines. Evaluates out-comes of all Respiratory Care interventions and reports all variances from accepted standard to appropriate hospital personnel and Cardiopulmonary management. * Responsible for checking staff off on required annual competancies. * Selects, reviews, obtains, and performs per departmental standards the following clinical skills: oxygen/aerosol/humidity therapy, IPPB, ultrasonic nebulizer, bronchial hygiene (chest physiotherapy, suctioning), arterial puncture/capillary sticks, and intubation/extubation/airway care. Monitors and reports staff compliance with completion of interdisciplinary plans of care. * Serves as a clinical resource for medical and nursing staff, ancillary departments, and cardiopulmonary staff.
