JOB DUTIES

Demonstrate technical ability, understanding of job expectations, and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Provide radiation therapy services by contributing as an essential member of the radiation oncology treatment team through the provision of total quality care for each patient.

Provide instructional direction to therapists and students in correct procedure and practice for both routine and complex tumor localization and treatment.

Establish and continue to update an onboarding program for new hires.

Evaluate the competence of radiation therapists on each technology and procedure for which they are assigned to perform.

Document, review, and update all radiation therapy procedures.

Determine resources needed for new technologies and procedures.

Educate radiation therapists regarding all applicable MU Health Care and UM System policies and determine compliance.

Establish training programs for radiation therapists on new technologies and procedures.

Coordinate and implement work assignments of radiation therapists to ensure proper work coverage and practical experience.

Proactively advise and counsel student therapists and radiation therapists with issues and concerns. Recommend further intervention as needed.

Coordinate scheduling problems with the nursing units, treatment units, and CT.

Prepare employee leave activity for payroll and submit it to meet the required deadline.

Serve as a member of the management team to identify and solve problems, develop and implement policies and procedures, and review and act upon issues facing Radiation Oncology and the institution as a whole.

Participate in capital equipment purchases and budget planning.

Schedule the use of radiotherapy equipment for PMIs, physics, and protocol research use.

Assist radiation therapists in all HR & Payroll related matters such as Compensation, FMLA, Worker's Compensation, Benefits, etc.

Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.

Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).

Three (3) years of experience as a radiation therapist.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

Five (5) years of experience as a Radiation Therapist.

Two (2) years of leadership experience in a cancer treatment center.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
