Summary

This is the lead position for the Buyer/Planner team. The Supervisor, Assembly Purchasing, will lead departmental meetings, ensure performance and metrics are achieved, and assist Buyer/Planners in breaking through internal and external constraints. This position manages flow of materials, parts, and assemblies between sections or departments; coordinates material needs for manufacturing lines with varying degrees of complexity; initiates and follows established procedures; makes decisions affecting the financial performance of the company. The supervisor is also responsible for execution of strategic action plans by implementing and maintaining processes that support Supply Chain department metrics.

The Supervisor, Assembly Purchasing, will receive requisitions and/or request for purchase and/or execute material release against an active supply agreement then enter into the MRP system. Record and communicate special instructions to Planning and Manufacturing. Tactical level communication with suppliers concerning service provisions, expectations, opportunities for improvement.

Responsible for assuring that stock levels are optimized while achieving the contract specific and agreed service requirements.

What You'll Do

Primary: 65%

  • Lead departmental meetings of Buyer/Planner team.

  • Provides input on strategic plans and leads action plan teams.

  • Monitor and enhance supplier performance through effective use of supplier scorecards.

  • Implement and achieve cost saving strategies in line with purchasing/supply management/supply chain department goals.

  • Understand, interpret, and analyze requisitions or request for orders and engineering changes.

  • Allocates company's inventory capacity based on quantity, availability, and reliability.

  • Prepares purchase orders, bid requests or requisitions.

  • Confers with internal departments, including quality control, production, inventory control and receiving to determine inventory needs and investigate supplier problems, such as quality issues and availability.

  • Expedites delivery of goods to users and follows up with complete communication of action taken

  • Manages planning necessary to ensure that assigned production lines have necessary materials on hand to ensure efficient use of production personnel and timely completion of production orders.

  • Review production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements, track material, and identify overdue materials

Secondary: 20%

  • Set up part numbers for purchased items, as needed, including pricing, costing, lead time, supplier, and ERP planning information

  • Assist with constrained suppliers as required and help planning break through internal and external constraints.

  • Determine inventory needs to maximize inventory turns and cash flow management.

  • Manage inventory rotation and organizes materials for physical inventories.

  • Coordinate transfer of materials from other PGT locations to meet production schedules.

  • Recommend changes to procedures based on experience and research.

  • Entering and updating of purchase system.

  • Verify data accuracy (parts numbers, BOMs, Part Costs) in MRP: report problems to Inventory Control.

  • Capable problem-solving skills to accept frequent challenges, with simple to moderate scope, that confront typical shop floor environments (scrap, labor and machine constraints, production delays, quality, and tooling issues, etc.) and to manage those challenges effectively.

  • Approve invoices for payment.

  • Determine corrective action when problems are encountered, including returns and exchanges of unacceptable goods.

Other: 15%

  • Ensures that procurement records are maintained to document items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.

  • Conducts off-site visits and inspections with suppliers as regular part of supply management.

  • Compiles and maintains manual or computerized records such as material inventory, in process production reports, and status and location of materials.

  • Ability to operate in compliance with all company policies and procedures (business ethics, export, and SOX compliance, etc.).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Supervisor, Assembly Purchasing, will be the departmental lead for Buyer/Planner team including:

  • Lead team including completing and delivering performance reviews, coaching, and discipline actions (both written and verbal, both positive and negative)

  • Lead projects

  • Training

  • Process Verification

  • Department improvement

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS in Business Preferred

  • Demonstrate planning, analytical, organizational and project management skills.

  • Customer service skills are required.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management.

  • Proven cost reduction track record.

  • Experience using common PC software, including MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-Access, working knowledge of ERP with an understanding of bills of materials and supporting data of the operating system and understanding and ability to apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing and Kanban systems required.

  • The Supervisor, Assembly Purchasing, must also possess excellent negotiation, verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to read prints, including a basic understanding of tolerances and finishes.

  • Supervision experience is preferred.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written.

  • Must be able to read and write to properly transact products, maintain records, and communicate effectively.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

CPM, CLA, CLT, or APICS Certified, preferred.

  • Ability to work in climate or non-climate-controlled facilities.

  • Must be able to move freely and navigate through production floor.

  • May require some overnight travel

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel occasionally domestically.

Occasional: activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.

Frequent: activity exists 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
