Job Summary:

Maintains responsibility for the overall operation of all Point of Care Testing (POCT) activities for the assigned region in consultation with and under the direction of Medical Directors (Pathologists), the Clinical Laboratory Directors, and the POCT Committees and Nursing Leadership. Is responsible for the selection of the appropriate instrumentation or test methodologies, developing and maintaining appropriate POCT quality assurance program, monitoring testing and QA processes including recording and reporting of results, ensuring program compliance with applicable regulations and safe working environment.

Collaborates with staff who supervise point of care testing in their respective department and develop training and competencies. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, allied health technology or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required

  • Master's Degree: Preferred

  • Five years' technical experience: Preferred

  • Clinical Lab Scientist experience in hospital setting: Preferred

  • Laboratory supervisory experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) licensure in the state of practice: Preferred

  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification: Preferred

  • Valid Driver's License (DL) and must be at least 21 years of age or older: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Manages daily operations for Point of Care Testing program. Performs quality improvement compliance studies of each nursing unit with indicators measured, summarized and reported.

    Participate in continuous quality improvement activities. Investigates and implements ideas, procedures, policies, etc. Maintains supplies for the department.

  • Provides leadership in development and quality improvement process for point-of-care testing. Manages and updates Point of Care Testing technical procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.

    Develops appropriate goals and objectives for the department. Manages and maintains technical procedures of respective departments in accordance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.

  • Delivers training and develops technical guidelines for point of care program. Monitors competency assessment and requirements for all testing personnel.

    Monitors daily quality control. Monitors monthly point of care testing performance of each nursing unit. Completes responsibilities for Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement POCT program at all three hospitals.

  • Selects appropriate instrumentation or test methodologies for Point of Care Testing program. Monitors ongoing effectiveness of tools and methodologies. Provides technical assistance to hospital/laboratory, CCT Liaison and Lab Marketing Rep/Admin Asst.

  • Ensures readiness for inspections.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
