Maintains ongoing residential effectiveness by assuring the administrative coordination of a variety of safety, therapeutic and operational issues. Responsible for administrative activities and oversight of a residential program. Supervision of Assistant Supervisor, program YFCs and relief YFCs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate leadership by coordinating all residential program components.

  • Coordinate with HR and supervisor about hiring, recruitment, and retention of employees.

  • Integrate the work of the school by routinely coordinating residential and educational interactions.

  • Serve as Supervisor on Duty when assigned by assuming responsibility for phone coverage, crisis intervention, ensuring adequate staffing, and good communication with appropriate on call administrator.

  • Provide a safe, structured therapeutic group living milieu by ensuring the physical safety and welfare for residents, including hygiene, clothing, food and medical care.

  • Maintain upkeep of physical plant by assuring the maintenance of a safe, clean and developmentally appropriate group living environment.

  • Ensure proper staffing levels by participating in the hiring of child care staff.

  • Collaboration with the training team to meet requirements of licensing needs.

  • Effectively employ and ensure that appropriate therapeutic crisis intervention (T.C.I.) procedures are occurring within program.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of the CARE model using the 6 CARE principles.

  • Monitor job performance by facilitating weekly staff meeting to include a group supervision component as well as one hour a month of individual supervision.

  • Development of staff through on the job coaching and supervisory debriefings.

  • Achieves organization financial objectives by providing input into the budget, overseeing program spending, monitoring staffing hours, and maintaining accurate and timely submission of all receipts/expenses.

  • Partner with program clinician in a positive manner to make decisions about the program.

  • Maintain partnership with program clinician to support treatment plan and act as the contact person for the treatment team, providers, and natural supports.

  • Direct, support, and participate in identifying, removing or reducing the likelihood of common safety concerns.

  • Timely completion of required documentation.

  • Maintain clear understanding and oversee compliance with licensing regulations and COA standards.

  • Work with nursing staff to maintain medical documentation.

  • CRMA certified, responsible for passing medicines and appropriate documentation.

  • Identify the need for debriefing and facilitate the process as trained by Cornell. Individual debriefing first, then group debriefing (in conjunction with clinician, if possible) after any major/significant behavioral or clinical incidents within the program. Supervisor is often the leader/facilitator of the debrief and role models the process of supporting staff/team, supporting a response to clients to include changes to ICSP if needed.

  • Conducts timely and thorough accident investigations. Identifies root causes on the Injury Analysis and Prevention Report, identifies corrective actions. Implements corrective actions promptly, reviews injuries, near misses and injury analysis findings at staff meeting.

  • Ensures Employee Injury Reports are submitted to HR within 48 hours of incident and collaborates with HR ensuring return-to-work and light-duty job offers.

  • Conducts monthly/weekly safety inspection of work location. Takes immediate corrective actions and reports larger unsafe conditions to Facilities Maintenance promptly.

  • Includes safety as a standing agenda item at team meetings. Reviews safety outcomes provided by HR quarterly and address as appropriate.

  • Orients all staff with location-specific and/or community safety information.

  • When appropriate ensures staff receives an ergonomic assessment and follows recommendations, and collaborates with HR and Facilities Maintenance to meet required equipment needs.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or five years related experience and/or training, including Other Qualified Mental Health Professional certification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Internal candidates must have achieved Youth & Family Counselor Level III.

  • External candidates must pass the competency tests of a Youth & Family Counselor Level I and II.

  • Must obtain certification as an Other Qualified Mental Health Professional within 90 days of assignment.

  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Four years' experience working in the Youth and Family Field.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Ability to work with difficult-to-manage youth.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other professionals on behalf of youth and their families.

  • Capacity to develop a professional orientation to child care.

  • Able to relate to children with warmth and understanding, and have the ability to identify the needs and problems of

children.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.

  • At least an intermediate proficiency using a personal computer.
