The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience, ranging from $101,404-$126,755

Job Summary

  • The Telecommunications department with Avangrid's Operational Smart Grids (OSG) organization is responsible for strategy, enterprise planning, operation, and compliance of the telecommunications network for Avangrid Networks, which serves CMP and MNG in Maine, along with RGE and NYSEG in New York and UIL in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

  • Reporting to the Manager of Network Management Center (NMC), the selected person will lead a team of telecom Tier1 Specialists and will work closely with the Smart Metering, Infrastructure and Automation departments and other groups (e.g., Avangrid Secure Domain

  • ASD, Corporate IT, Control & Automation Systems, Electric Operations, Customer Service) to develop and implement solutions for the telecoms networks, including support for Smart Metering and for the Automation devices and network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of telecom experts located in New York Responsible for the internal coordination of the Tier1 group inside Network Management Center, in the troubleshoot, deployment, and reporting of the incidents and Maintenance Works

  • Ensure the NMC Tier1 provides appropriate answers to stakeholders via email and phone calls in a timely manner.

  • Ensure the NMC Tier1 access to the appropriate tools and applications needed for their regular activities.

  • Cascade new projects and process to the NMC Tier1 Specialists.

  • Create monthly performance reports for Tier1 NMC activities.

  • Create shift schedule for Tier1 NMC ensuring the availability of the team in a 24/7 schedule.

  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, set performance standards, and monitor performance

  • Leverage the capabilities of new and existing talent.
  • Use expert level knowledge of telecom infrastructure and process flow to collaborate with the NMC Senior Specialists in Tier2, Operations and OT departments to propose then execute on changes and improvements to the Telecommunication network.

  • Design and deliver reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and KPIs/performance metrics.

  • Lead and facilitate training plans and knowledge transfer for new or junior level team members to foster continuity on the team

  • Provide accurate and comprehensive analysis to management as needed to aid in setting team direction and strategy

  • Ensure the NMC provides accurate information in storm events.

  • Collaborate in the creation of Post Mortem reports

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Advanced knowledge of Information/Operations Technology design and implementation

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to drive solutions to complex problems or projects.

  • Solid technical background with experience with Telecom WAN technologies including the following:

  • Network tools including SSH, traceroute, ping,…

  • Experience working with Telco circuit providers, devices, and services

  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and process improvement experience

  • The ability to demonstrate good communication skills both written and orally. This communication would be with team members, others' departments, regulating authorities and leadership local and abroad.

  • Previous work experience in a Network Operation and Management Center

  • Ability to maintain multiple tasks and manage expectations

  • Ability to Prioritize tasks for the team and coordinate activities with Tier 2 and other Telecom groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degrees in Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science with at least 6 years of experience

  • Solid understanding of network security and firewall concepts, radio networks and firmware updates

  • Understanding FCC regulations

  • Knowledge of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
