Supervisor of Operations # Sterile Compounding
Responsible for meeting the standards of current and future USP 797/USP 800 sterile compounding processes and procedures for clean room operation, sterile product compounding, and hazardous drug handling and storage. This position will serve as the designated person as described in USP 797 as well as the sterile compounding portion of UPS 800. Responsible for assessing competency of all staff working in the IV areas. Responsible for meeting all quality standards and QA audits on clean room and personnel as required for CSPs, including, but not limited to, media fill testing, fingertip testing, surface testing, clean room certification, hood certification, particle counts, and air quality certification. Responsible for performing monthly IV room checks to ensure that medications are properly and safely stored, that excess and outdated drugs are removed, and that information regarding drug usage and administration is communicated to pharmacy and nursing staffs. Supervises direct Pharmacy reports to provide optimum utilization, coverage, back-up staffing, and overall efficient operation of the Pharmacy Department as related to sterile compounding. Maintains records of attendance, punctuality, and personnel action. Performs performance reviews with assigned staff. Ensures compliance with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, and COA policies. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures related to sterile compounding operations of the Department of Pharmacy.# Assures conformity and participates in the review and updating of the departmental policies and procedures. Recognizes potential opportunities for quality improvement and initiates action to bring about resolutions. Maintains ongoing two-way communication with all staff on a regular basis, including individual as well as group meetings to ensure effective communication between shifts, and between staff and Pharmacy management. Demonstrates professional leadership as representative of the Pharmacy Department when appointed or in the absence of the Director. Regularly advises and informs the Director of Pharmacy of the overall activity and performance of the department as related to sterile compounding. Establishes a working relationship with the entire Pharmacy staff and the personnel of other COA departments in the interest of promoting the best possible pharmaceutical distribution system. Serves as a liaison between Medical Staff, other departments, and the Pharmacy Department to obtain and monitor services necessary to the operation of the Pharmacy Department and its satellites. Monitors the utilization of departmental resources. Develops effective systems controls aimed at the reduction of medication errors and methods of managing medication errors once they have occurred within the Pharmacy Department. Maintains own professional competency and expertise. Satisfactorily completes annual competency assessment in areas identified by Pharmacy management. Creates an atmosphere of teamwork and harmony in the workplace to assure the highest possible level of job satisfaction. Performs other related duties as pharmacy support personnel, pharmacist, Pharmacy supervisor, or Director as assigned or as required to meet emergency situations or in the absence of the Pharmacy Director, for the overall efficient functioning of the Pharmacy Department.
