Supervisor of Special Education
Pupil Personnel Services Job Title: Supervisor of Special Education Job Category: YAAS Department/Group: School Administration Job Description Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, the Supervisor of Special Education is responsible for the administration, supervision, and evaluation of all PPS school building matters, including the Committee on Special Education and Section 504 Committee. This includes supervision of the Special Education department, clinical team, and related service providers; strategic and logistical planning, supervision of students, implementing professional development opportunities for staff, providing instructional leadership to the school buildings, as well as other staff and student related tasks as delegated by the Director of Pupil Personnel.
Reports to: Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Supervises: Staff, as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Minimum Qualifications:
New York State certification as a School District Administrator or School District Leader (may be pending if other qualifications are met)
Teaching and administrative experience in the the area of Special Education is preferred
Clinical experience as a school psychologist is preferred
Creative and innovative leadership style
Extensive knowledge of Part 200 Regulations and laws pertaining to Section 504
Experience with DASA, PBIS and the Danielson Rubric
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Highly organized and attentive to responsibilities
Adept at instructional technologies
Committed to professional growth
Primary Activities
Administration and Supervision
Assists with the supervision and evaluation of instructional and non-instructional staff
Assists with the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of special education programs and services
Chairperson of the Committee on Special Education and Section 504 Committee, including for out-of-district students, as assigned by the Director of PPS
Serve as primary PPS liaison for 6-12 school buildings
Coordinate additional support services as needed
Other duties, as assigned by the Director of PPS
Records Management
Implements and maintains a system to manage duties and assignments
Maintains confidentiality of records and information
Proficient in Frontline/IEP Direct, and Google Drive
Physical Demands (as per ADA)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
Is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit
Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward
Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear
Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 75 pounds
Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is typical for a school environment
The manager continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people
