Supervisor of Special Education

The Montgomery County School Board in Virginia is now accepting applications for a Supervisor of Special Education that is available within our division.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Supervisor of Special Education supervises the special education staff and programs of MCPS, as well as VT, RU, pre-K, K-12, and post-secondary programs (On-Campus Transition Programs; Project Search).

Experience in curriculum development
Experience and expertise in using technology in education
Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with parents and families
Ability to process, collect, and analyze test results
Experience processing state and federal reports in a thorough and timely manner
Knowledge of resources and techniques needed to integrate special education students into the least restrictive environment
Knowledge of the medical implications that disabilities may have on instruction and learning
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office including EXCEL, WORD, and PowerPoint
Functional knowledge of commonly used office equipment and work-flow technologies
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
Ability to multitask, work with interruptions, and work under pressure
Ability to be dependable and punctual
Ability to lead teams and provide support to teachers, administrators, parents, and students
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with dual enrollment eligibility and instructional application
Working familiarity with virtual education
Experience in a public school system
Experience or have working familiarity with Google Drive for instruction, collaboration and course work
Effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Excellent collaboration skills
Strong professional, interpersonal, and communication skills for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community
Experience in fostering an inclusive learning environment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Complete performance indicators for the VA Department of Education
Assist consulting teachers with special education referrals, evaluations, eligibility, and IEP processes
Provide technical assistance to resolve issues at the high school level relative to special education programs, processes, and services
Serve as the Special Education representative at the Supervisors meetings
Experience with collecting, maintaining and analyzing division-wide data
Experience with interpreting state and federal special education regulations and compliance
Serve as alternate representative to FAPT, CPMT, Special Education Advisory, and Region 6 Directors of Special Education as requested by Director of Special Education
Supervise and evaluate itinerant special education staff as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Provide leadership in the development and application of best practice programming for students with disabilities
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of initiatives resulting in increased SOL pass rates for students with disabilities
Provide input into the development of the budget, Annual Plan, and initiatives for the Special Education department
Provide input into the support and workshops offered to parents through the Parent Resource Center
Other duties as assigned
