ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION

Title of Position: Supervisor of Guidance Counselors K-12

Work Year: Twelve (12) Months

Effective Date

of Employment: 2024/2025 School Year

Salary: Placement on the Administrative Salary Schedule according to education and experience.

Organizational Relationship

or Line of Authority: Directly responsible to the Director of Guidance, Counseling and Student Support Services, and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his or her designee

Statement of Duties:

  • Oversees and administers a comprehensive program of school counseling services including: delivery of school counseling curriculum aligned with DESE, ASCA and MASCA standards; standardized testing coordination; parent information sessions; post-secondary planning events; and development of tier I and II interventions to address the social emotional needs of students.

  • Works with building administrators to create a supportive and positive school climate that will promote trauma-informed practices, that is culturally responsive, and that is centered on equity and inclusion.

  • Works with staff to familiarize them with the general range of services available to support social emotional needs of students

  • Works with staff to identify and address the varied needs of students that impact social emotional and academic functioning; establishes effective working relationships with community organizations in order to provide relevant referrals for alternative/continuing education, crisis situations, or wraparound services.

  • Serves as a member of the Building Crisis Team and District Crisis Response Team

  • Works in conjunction with the Parent Registration Center to facilitate the registration of new students and their scheduling for Haverhill High School

  • Works in conjunction with middle and high school administrators and counselors to implement recruitment and transition programming for incoming freshmen

  • Supervises course recommendations and student course selections; works with Deans and Curriculum Supervisors regarding course sequence, content and requirements; coordinates communication with students and families with regard to course requests and approval.

  • Assists the high school leadership team in the development of the master schedule, student schedules, and teacher schedules.

  • Calculate and maintain grade point averages and class rank for students in grades 9-12

  • Oversees and coordinates post-secondary planning and career exploration programming in accordance to DESE's College and Career Advising MyCAP framework; evaluates effectiveness of ongoing programming.

  • Oversee exit surveys of students who graduate or leave school to track post-secondary plans as well as gather relevant information about students' experiences in high school. Analyzes and shares the data with the high school leadership team.

  • Assist in the hiring of highly qualified staff, as appropriate

  • Assist with the District supervision and evaluation model, including evaluating departmental staff across the district; work jointly with the administrative team to ensure effective strategies for improving instruction and student outcomes are implemented

  • Assists in the coordination of professional development for district school counseling staff to enhance their job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Supervises the secure and confidential maintenance and storage of student and graduate records as mandated by the student-records legislation.

  • Develop and submit all departmental budgets; approve the selection of all related instructional resources, equipment and materials

  • Serve as the District 504 Coordinator: oversee the 504 process and plan development, provide training to coordinators and staff

  • Assists district in state/federal mandated reports

  • Attend professional workshops and meetings and stay current with professional research and studies to keep up to-to-date with changes and trends in the profession

  • Represents the district at relevant local and state school counseling meetings.

  • Works the requisite hours needed to meet the responsibilities of the aforementioned job description and be responsible for other instructional and general duties as indicated by the directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill Public School Committee.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Supervisor/Director and School Counselor in Massachusetts - REQUIRED

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in the field of School Counseling or related area.

  • Can demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years successful experience in the field of guidance, counseling, or related field.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the students, staff, and community.
