Supervisor, Middle School Math

The Supervisor of Middle School Math is responsible for the planning and oversight of the math curriculum at all middle schools; working with principals, assistant principals, and math teachers.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with school and district personnel in the development of standard-based curriculum implementation models for all levels of middle school math.

  • Assesses the effectiveness of the middle school math curriculum and implementation.

  • Assesses student achievement in middle school math.

  • Improves instructional delivery in middle school math.

  • Performs and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Education: A master's degree. Degree or formal training in Educational Leadership required.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in classroom teaching, with three years of related management or supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge of national, state, and district math standards and instruction trends and the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with school personnel, district staff, parents, and community members is necessary. Middle School experience preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate: Educational Leadership, School Principal, or Administration and Supervision.

The Site Supervisor will oversee our before and after school program (200+ children) at Roosevelt Elementary School in the South Tampa area. The Site Supervisor assists the YMCA in Closing the Achievement Gap and cultivating an environment in which youth have a sense of belonging. Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, provide for the safety, well-being and development of participants in the before and after school program. Interact and serve as mentor for youth, helping to nurture their self-esteem, confidence and to reflect the Y core values when interacting with youth. Exhibit behaviors and attitudes that are consistent with the YMCA mission and policies of the association. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Member Services and Engagement * Get to know participants and develop positive relationships with them. * Greet children and parents daily. * Interact with and observe program participants. Operations/Supervision * Maintain complete responsibility for the program site. * Conduct weekly site quality audits. * Maintain headcounts and staff ratio at all times. * Adhere to and ensure enforcement of program rules and communicate them positively and effectively to staff, members and program participants. * Conduct periodic observations to evaluate job performance of assigned staff, maintain appropriate documentation, and prepare and lead quarterly staff reviews. * Provide direct supervision, ongoing coaching and daily feedback to Group Leaders and all site staff. * Organize and lead bi-monthly staff meetings. * Develop and maintain a healthy relationship with the school staff. * Serve on a school committee or organization. * Develop partnerships with community services that may assist in meeting the needs of children and families. * Plan, organize and oversee implementation of a curriculum that is developmentally and culturally appropriate. * Attend all trainings and staff meetings. * Maintain confidential records needed for program participants and employees. * Accurately complete and turn in all reports by due dates. * Collect program fees and maintain accounting and balance dues within guidelines. * Take collected program fees and drop them on the first day of the school week to the designated site or YMCA branch. * Ensure that staff use electronic time and attendance if available. If paper timesheets must be used, they must be completed, and submitted prior to the pay period closing. * Report to work on time and as scheduled. Be in uniform at your position when your shift begins. Make arrangements to cover your job responsibilities and participants in your care if you must excuse yourself. Immediately notify your supervisor if you are going to be late or absent. Safety and Risk Management * Communicate with direct supervisor and/or program director regarding potential hazards, concerns or incidents that may need follow-up based on individual circumstances. * Be knowledgeable of and follow all emergency procedures. Treat minor cuts, scrapes, and bumps as trained. Immediately report all injuries and illnesses regardless of severity and complete a "YMCA Accident/ Incident Form." Complete and submit a "Redwoods Forms" to your program director for severe incidents and inform your program director immediately. Identify and directly report instances of unusual, disruptive, unsafe or threatening behavior, inappropriate language or contact, or other misconduct or disciplinary issues. Ensure safety and risk standards to enforce proper check-in procedures are followed for members and guests. * Ensures all Tampa Y youth development standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. * Ensures all youth development staff are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. Program Quality and Growth * Focus on strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of youth development as a "signature program." This includes: Developing and ensuring delivery of curriculum with a focus on the core components established by the YUSA and the Tampa YMCA. * Work closely with the appropriate schools to create/maintain/improve relations with office staff in order to work together to reach and engage parents. * Leverages marketing resources and drives frequent/regular community, web and social media communications and engagement.
