Supervisor Maintenance

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Shift Supervisor is responsible for direct supervision, development, and performance of Maintenance Mechanics.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Address and mitigate safety and environmental concerns and hazards that are found in assigned area. Assist in investigating all maintenance involved safety and environmental incidents in assigned area. Deliver weekly safety topic when assigned.

  • Supervise and direct the execution of maintenance work according to daily schedule while working with other work groups in the refinery to ensure safe and efficient completion of maintenance activities.

  • Communicate craft resource availability updates to AMCs at the start of each shift.

  • Obtain the latest equipment readiness status and receive adjusted work front and revised daily work schedule from AMCs.

  • Assure that resources such as: materials, tools and equipment are available to personnel to allow for completion of assigned work.

  • Perform minimum of four daily field audits (two morning, two afternoon) for all scheduled jobs and document delays and deviations of scheduled work. Communicate and address issues that threaten daily schedule as they occur.

  • Identify and effectively communicate performance expectations to craft personnel.

  • Lead safety discussions and demonstrate leadership behavior that reinforces company safety policies.

  • Identify and act on opportunities to raise productivity of craft workers through various means such as multi-crafting or specialized skills. Identify and communicate specific craft knowledge deficiencies and report to Execution Superintendent.

  • Support and provide feedback with the Planners, Schedulers, and Area Maintenance Coordinators to maximize the value of the planning and scheduling process.

  • Clearly set and drive expectations of hourly staff and communicate concerns or issues with Maintenance Execution Superintendent. Document first start delays in delay report form and communicate with AMC's and Maintenance Execution Superintendent.

  • Maintain effective communications and coordinate day-to-day or job-to-job tasks and readiness with other Maintenance Supervisors. Lead morning kickoff meetings and assign work to Maintenance Mechanics. Responsible and Accountable providing and distributing job packages per daily schedule and for supplying updated JSA's to Maintenance Mechanics.

  • Organize Confined Space pre-plan meeting when responsible crafts is the primary craft for confined space work.

  • Sheppard Critical Lift Plans for all work requiring a Critical Lift Pre-plan.

  • Schedule and execute Open Above 20% meetings.

  • Handle all administrative, labor relations and personnel issues in a timely manner.

  • Attend daily maintenance update and overtime meeting at request of AMC or Maintenance Execution Superintendent.

  • Respond to plant emergencies and be available after hours during critical situations and perform on call duties.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline plus 5 years of experience working in a maintenance environment in leu of engineering degree must possess 10 years of experience working in a maintenance environment.

  • 3+ years' supervisory or process management experience required, preferably in a union environment.

  • Preference given to individuals with experience in a refinery/petrol chemical environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Hard trade experience/certification is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite required. SAP experience preferred.

  • Must be able to respond to 24/7 call ins, work rotating shifts including holidays, weekends, and meet all scheduling requirements.
