This position supervises the Laboratory testing activities, USW technician work and schedules.
Administer the collective bargaining agreement by monitoring attendance and ensuring staffing needs are met in accordance with the agreement.
Document and evaluate employee performance; conduct counseling sessions; participate in fact finding and grievance proceedings.
Lead/support safety audits, tours, investigations and safety talks.
Directly supervise technicians, ensuring efficient use of lab personnel and material resources.
Frequently review/analyze production, quality and data targets.
Assist in the development of test methods and operating procedures as needed.
Coordinate work with QCC's ensuring timely follow up on product testing and quality issues.
Participate in periodic quality audits, document non-conformance, suggest and initiate corrective actions.
Perform routine and non-routine maintenance as required on Lab equipment.
Provide and/or arrange for technical support outside the normal scope when required to assist in operational and technical issues within the refinery.
Ensure adherence of technician's to procedures and policies.
Meet agreed to data delivery targets established by Lab management.
Lead the continued development of Lab technicians training program working with the hourly trainer.
Provide basic vacation/holiday coverage and support to the QCC's.
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
5+ years Laboratory experience in an industrial setting, refinery experience preferred.
Must have supervisory experience; experience in a union environment preferred.
Previous LIMS experience and knowledge of lab instrument repair is required.
