The Spectrum News Environment: Spectrum News is a 24-hour news network that requires employees be flexible and available to work various shifts throughout the day, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays. The network is currently focused on the morning news, which means your day will start in the middle of the night, but it also means your workday will end around noon (most days).

What we're looking for: A Media Management Supervisor who will be responsible for ongoing administration and operation of the Networks Digital Asset Infrastructure. The role will work with all content producing departments to ensure timely and systematic storage of relevant media. Daily functions will include; encoding, filing, cataloging, downloading and quality assurance of a variety of content/media in support of on-air operations as well as production and post production activities of the network.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage the Digital Asset System
Facilitate the uploading and downloading of assets
Assist content creation efforts by utilizing knowledge of the asset system and its contents
Provide status reports related to the state of the system
Enforcement of media archive policies
Perform digital asset lifecycle maintenance activities related to archiving asset expiration
Work with Engineering and IT to ensure systems are optimized and functioning properly.
Act as champion of the digital asset management system within and outside the department, as one of the primary experts of all aspects of the system
Provide a leadership role within the department
Lead shift handoff meetings
Train department staff
Provide technical support and troubleshooting services to users.
Day to day operation and management of systems that make up the networks digital asset and content management system.
Establish and maintain procedures and work standards for department staff. Lead shift handoff meetings, train department staff, enhance existing and future workflows.
Work directly with recruitment staff for the screening, interviewing and hiring of new staff
Develop training protocol and documentation for the training of new employees
Disk space management of online storage systems
Coordinate and oversee the ongoing ingest of assets into the system in support of current and future organizational initiatives
Encode and upload content from original productions, news and remote productions departments.
Perform quality control monitoring and remediation of media prior to use and archive.
Prep and maintain content by;
Monitor video/audio quality and signal availability using waveform monitors, meters and other test and monitoring equipment.
Video server operation
Understanding of various media formats such as video, audio, and timed text (subtitles and closed captions), MPEG 2, MPEG 4, etc.
Advanced knowledge of industry format standards such as SD, HD, UHD, PAL, NTSC, timecode, aspect ratios etc.
Advanced knowledge of a variety of broadcast equipment and technology within assigned operating areas, including but not limited to; standard and high definition operations, non-linear edit systems, VTRs, server based recording/playback devices and related software applications, server networking and transfer technologies, broadcast routers, intercom panels, etc.
Advanced Knowledge of quality assurance techniques and measurement of video, audio and file based media.
Ability to work any scheduled time, including nights, weekends and holidays to support the 24x7 on-air broadcast.
Ability to work under pressure.
Education & Certification
College diploma or university degree in an associated field discipline and/or five (5) years equivalent work experience
Experience in broadcast television, cable programmer or network desirable.
Experience in a live news or sports broadcast environment desirable.
SBE certification desirable

Provide 24x7, 365 days per year, on-call support. May entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to equipment and power failures, loss of contracted services, storms or severe weather, and loss of staff members
Participate in an established on-call rotation
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying distances
