DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide strategic, scientific, and daily leadership for Formulation Services.
Provide strategic direction and leadership, including staff recruitment, development and motivation, oversight of projects and studies, and capacity assessment
Develop and implement metric driven performance management
Mentor and develop team members
Review protocols, ensuring documents are accurate, and maintain company standards
Review draft formulation records for accuracy and recommend drug/dosing regimens
Review SDS for technical and environmental health and safety considerations
Document adverse events and drive resolution and appropriate corrective action
Coordinate cross functional and departmental initiatives, including customer/collaborator interactions
Review formulations related SOPs to ensure they reflect current work practices
Oversee and participate in
Collection and documentation of pertinent data, including lot information, COA, and MSDS, for the receipt, distribution, preparation and disposition of test compounds, reagents, and carriers/vehicles in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory agency guidelines
Conduct of advanced formulation preparation
Preparation/disposal of test materials/vehicles/reagents according to study protocols/SOPs
Prepare labels and related documentation of study procedures
Maintain inventory of drugs/reagents/lab supplies including costing and ordering
Monitor test material/reagent inventory
Drive development and continuous improvement of computer-based systems
Serve on Safety Committee
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Deep chemistry and pharmacology knowledge and experience, including dose calculations and study conduct.
Ability to work quickly, effectively, and productively in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills and sound judgment in making timely decisions.
Superior planning, organizational, computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
Inherent flexibility to assist with other duties in a dynamic environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS degree in chemistry, pharmacology, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of related experience, with at least 2 years leadership experience
Hospital or compounding pharmacy experience is preferable
Experience in contract research animal facility or industry setting required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel
Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds
Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer in a typical office environment in a multi-level facility
Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling or pushing
In carrying out the duties of the job there will be frequent exposure to fumes and chemical hazards
Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
