JOB SUMMARY

Assists Manager with daily operations of the Environmental Services Department. Assists with management duties, to include budget formulation and management, quality and regulatory compliance, employee development and management and staffing. Reports to Facilities Director. Exempt position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists manager with directing the day-to-day operations and activities of the department.

  • Assists with employee management of the department and makes recommendations to manger regarding hiring, staffing, performance issues and expectations, and provides feedback on staff performance reviews.

  • Creates and maintains staff development and training program and monitors competencies of staff through quality improvement and other documented training activities.

  • Demonstrates and trains staff of proper use of and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and machines.

  • Maintains patient customer service relations by ensuring all customer service initiatives are rolled out effectively and used consistently.

  • Recommends performance and disciplinary action to manager when needed.

  • Supervises, monitors, participates in, and complies with performance improvement activities of the department.

  • Monitors, reviews, and keeps all department policies and procedures current with regulations and industry standards.

  • Enters and edits time for personnel timecards and ensures employee pay is accurate and in accordance with FLSA guidelines.

  • Ensures a clean, orderly, and attractive hospital.

  • Assigns and inspects work for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness and documents findings.

  • Conducts huddles and safety meetings for EVS staff at shift change.

  • Coordinates and schedules routine and project assignments for EVS staff.

  • Monitors and ensures accurate and timely completion of assigned duties.

  • Prepares reports as requested by manager or Senior Leader.

  • Rounds on patients as needed.

  • Examines interior of the facility to determine the need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment, and enters work orders for any needs identified.

  • Rounds on directors and staff to include the outbuildings to ensure areas are cleaned and maintained appropriately.

  • Monitors medical waste management program, ensures documentation is complete, contracts are current, transportation of waste is in compliance, and ensures nursing and direct patient care employees are disposing of waste correctly and in the correct bins.

  • Works independently in all areas and positions of EVS department as needed.

  • Purchases housekeeping supplies and equipment and takes periodic inventories

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.

One year of management experience required, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Required Skills

Must possess ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service.

Must possess high degree of organization and be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively.

Advanced computer knowledge required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

Functional Job Requirements:

Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.

Lifting Requirements

Job requires heavy lifting on an occasional basis.
