Job summary: The Engineering Supervisor position is typically the first level of management and will supervise a team that will consist of engineers, designers, and technicians. In smaller departments, the Engineering Supervisor may have no direct reporting structure, but is the Supervisor of an initiative or project, requiring leadership through cross-functional teamwork to deliver results. As an Engineering Supervisor at KME you will be responsible for design of world class fire apparatus to meet customer requirements while focusing on safety, reliability and meeting all applicable regulatory standards. The Supervisor at KME is relied upon by customers and dealers for technical guidance and support
Coordinates activities of engineers, designers, and technicians by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of the assigned team to meet goals and objects as defined for the department.
Responsible for the review and approval of designs and related components.
Responsible for creating specifications and consistent with customer requirements, industry and regulatory standards, and established company practices.
Participation in customer meetings to understand design requirements and answer questions regarding product design parameters and/or limitations.
Create a robust fire apparatus design that is safe, buildable and avoids interferences.
Support regional and international dealers as needed.
Leads company initiatives, such as Lean, through his/her organization and departmental area of responsibility. Provides support to other departments and company initiatives such as lean and continuous improvement.
Plans and assigns resources as appropriate to deliver to bid review and order review schedule commitments.
Evaluates and verifies employee performance through review of completed work assignments and work techniques. Identifies staff development and training needs and conducts the training or otherwise ensures that training is obtained.
Confers with management and production to determine engineering feasibility for production, and cost effectiveness for new and existing products.
Maintains industry standards while driving ingenuity in product design with a focus on profitability and cost reduction.
Responsible for administrative functions such as recording time and attendance and enforcement of policies and procedures.
Supports Production during the manufacturing and prototype process to ensure smooth flow on the production line.
OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements.
Bachelor's Degree in Business/Engineering field or AS degree with 10 years of equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 3 years of design engineering related experience in fire apparatus manufacturing industry
Excellent communication skills and proven negotiation skills
Strong organization skills and impeccable attention to detail
Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of situations
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
Prior leadership experience preferred
Proficiency in CAD systems - CREO
