This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growing Trade Advisory Group as a Supervisor of Customs Consulting and Support. This role includes providing guidance to Trade Advisors throughout the life cycle of a project, reviewing the work of Trade Advisors; providing feedback on the content, form, and presentation. In addition, the Supervisor will attend client meetings to provide guidance and support to the team as well as manage the client expectations, and resolve/neutralize any potential conflicts. The Supervisor will be responsible for discussing consulting services with potential clients, demonstrating the team's expertise to the clients (soft selling), assessing viability of potential projects and writing proposals for Consulting services.

The Supervisor will also be responsible for individual, assigned projects and for meeting revenue goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages complex, long term, and time sensitive compliance projects including Prior Disclosures, Risk Assessments, Audits, development of Compliance Programs, HTS Classification reviews, STP/USMCA Eligibility determinations, etc.

  • Conducts independent Customs related research as requested by clients, and/or needed for a project.

  • Demonstrates ability to research and interpret government import regulations and applies them to the clients' situations.

  • Develops solutions to complex import situations and recommends course of action.

  • Collaborates with Trade Advisors on complex issues, and helps them find reliable solutions.

  • Prioritizes and completes work according to project demands, customs requirements, and standards.

  • Develops project plans to determine time frame and procedures for accomplishing projects. Helps Trade Advisors to prioritize projects and develop project plans.

  • Keeps Deringer's Operational teams informed about projects affecting their clients, and partners with Deringer's operational teams to resolve issues, correct errors, and fix/improve process when needed.

  • Trains customers on import regulations on an as-needed basis (ad hoc training), as well as prepares and delivers structured, billable training programs on various import compliance topics.

  • Interfaces with other internal or external resources as needed to complete a consulting project on-time and to the client's expectations.

  • Ensures, when opinion is provided, U.S. Government regulatory requirements are met, and the provided opinion is well researched, justified, and correct.

  • Responsible for the analysis and interpretation of information received from clients and consultants.

  • Performs complex import activity data analysis.

  • Liaison between the organization and appropriate government departments with regards to resolving client's situation and/or projects.

  • Recognizes and takes advantage of sales opportunities.

  • Remains current with Customs regulations, procedures, and requirements along with familiarity of other federal laws and regulations affecting trade and Customs.

  • Exercises independent judgment as it relates to customer interface during consulting projects.

  • Presents at and/or coordinates public speaking engagements, seminars, and webinars.

  • Mentors and guides Trade Advisors

  • Cross-trains in additional responsibilities.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

  • Travel, around 10%, required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or auditing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the customs brokerage, import compliance or import/export auditing field.

  • U.S. Customs Brokers License

  • CCS Certification preferred

Additional Experience:

  • Experience coaching and managing employees

  • Trade compliance audit and risk assessment experience

  • Development of Trade Compliance Programs including compliance manuals

  • Implementation of effective internal controls to meet regulatory requirements

  • Establishment of Trusted Trade programs, such as ISA / CTPAT Trade Compliance

  • Analysis and submission of Prior Disclosures

  • HTS Classification experience

  • Customs Valuation Experience

  • Binding Ruling process and submission

  • AD/CVD - scope determination experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish strong rapport with clients will be critical

  • Technical and persuasive writing skills required

  • Advanced skill level and experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); familiarity with Microsoft Access. Advanced Excel experience preferred
