Job Description:
The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is seeking a Teaching and Learning Supervisor with a focus on Social Studies for grades PK-12 for the district's 16 magnet schools. The qualified candidate will oversee the direction of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development in the area of Social Studies for the magnet schools and work collaboratively with others to uphold the core values of this agency.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop, support and monitor the district's Social Studies curriculum, instruction and assessments in accordance with the CT Social Studies Frameworks
Develop and advance the use of integrated and project based learning units, culturally responsive and equity centric curriculums
Collaborate with the teaching and learning supervisors on district-wide initiatives including TEAM, Summer School, and;
Lead district-wide teams to advance the teaching of social studies, capstone and related courses
Analyze trends, district and school data to determine and support initiatives aimed at improving student achievement
Design and coordinate district-wide and school-based professional development for teachers and administrators focused on improving practices in social studies and beyond
Assist schools in analyzing instruction and evaluating teachers to further drive instructional improvement
Provide coaching and mentoring support to teachers and administrators focused on implementing the district curriculum and sound instructional practices
Qualifications and key characteristics:
A minimum of 7 years prior social studies teaching experience
Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification (092)
Certification in Social Studies (026 or 226) or Elementary certification (305) with additional training in the area of social studies
Experience as an instructional coach, department chair, cooperating teacher or mentor;
Expertise with the CT Social Studies Framework, CT Core, SBAC and SAT
Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate curriculum and instructional services
Knowledge of effective use of data information systems to improve student achievement
Ability to set goals and monitor programs and projects toward achievement
Competence in working collaboratively with a variety of teams
Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of a wide range of social studies courses and related areas.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of integrated learning, project based learning and innovative practices in teaching and learning.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to organize teams and plan effectively.
Ability to write and lead curriculum writing teams.
