Communications Center Supervisor

Location: Rancho Cucamonga, Ca

Reports to: Communications Manager

Status: Exempt


The Supervisor of Communications is responsible for the supervision of communication centers and staff. The Supervisor of Communications is responsible for evaluation and preparation of contracts, and consolidation of communication services.


  • Utilize sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, which assists in monitoring, updating, and controlling the locations and movements of units

  • Responsible for supervising the Primary SSC in maintaining System Status Plan by ensuring units are starting shifts and clearing destinations within allotted time frames

  • Responsible for supervising those obtaining and providing mapping and routing information to units

  • Responsible for supervising those making hospital notifications in a timely manner and relaying accurate patient information

  • Responsible for supervising those answering and screening telephone calls in order to prevent unnecessary interruptions


  • Monitors and manages effectively as required

  • Directs work assignments of field personnel on a daily basis as needed

  • Supervises the management of rest breaks for field personnel on a daily basis as needed

  • Maintains effective and professional communications with field personnel

  • Maintains excellent knowledge of company, department, and county policies, operating procedures and medical protocols


  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • High School diploma or General Education diploma

  • Two years minimum of SSC experience

  • Strong teamwork skills

  • Proficient working knowledge of spreadsheets and database

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Knowledge of medical billing procedures

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access


  • Associate of Arts degree in Business

  • Two to five years of experience

  • EMS field experience

  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification

  • Experience in business environment with multiple locations

  • Experience in a healthcare managed care, hospital, or health insurance environment

Summary: This position coordinates the effective functioning of the credentialing process to ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements, accreditation standards, Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and applicable policies and procedures. Essential Tasks: * Performs all aspects of credentialing, including appointment, reappointment, privileging, for approximately 500 physicians and allied health practitioners * Maintains confidential credential files and electronic medical staff database. * Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate in English effectively through verbal and written means to the extent necessary to perform job duties appropriately. Reading and comprehension at level necessary to perform job duties appropriately. * Knowledge of State and Federal regulations and Joint Commission accreditation standards. * Independent problem solving and decision making abilities. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected. * Ability to work under stress and to respond quickly in emergency situations. Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team. * Demonstrates good interpersonal skills when working or interacting with patients, their families and other staff members. Qualifications: * Associate's degree or equivalent experience. * CPMSM or CPSC certification preferred. * 2 years experience with credentialing initial appointment and reappointment applications in an acute care hospital. * Experience with preparing medical staff department/committee meetings and composing minutes. * Experience with or direct involvement in a combined accreditation and licensing survey at an acute care hospital.
