This role will be based in one of our two offices:

  • Lincoln, NE
  • Urbandale, IA

We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

We'll count on you for:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and lead a team of Associate Underwriters Underwriting Assistants and/or Underwriters, managing the book of business within the team.

  • Data Analysis: Monitor and analyze production, loss experience, and competitive marketing data. Develop and implement action plans to optimize performance.

  • Underwriting Expertise: Utilize established underwriting workflows, processes, and service standards to underwrite commercial property and casualty accounts with low-hazard exposures.

  • Agent Relationship Building: Coach team to Build and nurture strong relationships with internal and external customers agents to promote profitability, growth, and the retention of existing business.

  • Territory Engagement: Occasionally travel within the assigned territory to enhance business relationships and make an impact. No agency travel required.

  • Mentorship: Recruit, train, and mentor underwriting staff, ensuring excellence in customer service, quality, profitability, and productivity.

  • Market Monitoring: Stay abreast of material changes within the market, reviewing industry periodicals, legislative actions, and court decisions. Provide insightful reports to management and staff.

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelors degree is preferred; alternatively, a minimum of five years of property and casualty underwriting experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Underwriting Expertise: Solid knowledge of underwriting principles, commercial insurance policy forms, and coverages.

  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated strong business acumen and critical thinking skills that set you apart.

  • Leadership Qualities: Lead by example with the ability to influence others to achieve outstanding results.

  • Time Management: Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and exhibit strong organizational and desk management skills.

  • Customer Orientation: Possess a strong customer orientation to ensure exceptional service delivery.

  • Tech Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Travel Readiness: Hold a valid driver's license for occasional travel requirements.
