Job Description
The Opportunity
The Child Nutrition Site Supervisor, under the direction of the Child Nutrition Operations Manager, works as a part of the KIPP Texas Public Schools Cafeteria Team. This individual will help to create a warm and friendly atmosphere to enhance students' meal time experience. The CN Site Supervisor will efficiently handle the ordering, production and sale of food and prepare an accurate Food Production Record for Child Nutrition accounting purposes. The CN Site Supervisor will work effectively in the cafeteria/kitchen to provide direction to Child Nutrition Specialists and Lead Specialists. This position will abide by the strictest standards of physical and food safety, freshness and sanitation. This individual will promote a teamwork environment that contributes to the successful operation of a professional team.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, train, and evaluate Child Nutrition Specialist staff to perform duties as required by the Child Nutrition Department.
Foster and promote a teamwork environment that will contribute to the operation of a successful cafeteria.
Support Child Nutrition Operations Manager in the cafeteria administrative functions.
Know, understand and assist in implementing the requirements of the Child Nutrition Program.
Work on the serving line when necessary to ensure quick, smooth meal services.
Ability to communicate well with parents, school/program staff, vendors, and the general public.
Assist with Program (NSLP, SBP, Snack, Supper) implementation and compliance oversight.
Comply with Health Department Codes for food service
Comply with all safety measures and regulations throughout the cafeteria and kitchen
Ensure that Food Production Record keeping is completed accurately on a daily basis. Monitor all serving schedules and ensure that all food items are served according to menu specifications defined by departmental guidelines
Control and document product waste and spoilage
Understand the regulations and philosophies of the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and all other appropriate programs and supervise the site team to ensure compliance.
Manage staff to maintain high productivity levels
Support all efforts to recycle and compost
Assist in any area of production or service as needed
Use safety precautions relative to working with food service equipment and materials
Firm understanding of FIFO and the Temperature Danger Zone and ability to train the site team to meet standards
Follow established HACCP food safety, cleaning and maintenance procedures
Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and cafeteria area
Store stock in an efficient and safe manner
Complete on-site checks to verify adherence to federal, state, local and district standards regarding food production, health code requirements, food safety, service and quality.
Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques for school child nutrition operations.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Ability to communicate professionally, both written and verbally with team and management.
Must be self-motivated and able to independently and effectively problem solve .
Food Manager Certificate required.
Ability to adapt to change.
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Proficient use of computers, different communication equipment, and other common office equipment.
Work with frequent interruptions.
Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Works, etc.
Basic computer skills preferred (this included knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, is proactive and flexible, and is willing and able to play different roles in the team in order to meet the varied and constant needs of the students
Preferred Experience/Education
One (1) year supervisory experience
Three (3) years professional work experience in food and hospitality related role
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience in school-based Child Nutrition a strong plus
Experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and fast-growing organization a strong plus
Must be able to adopt new technology quickly and be very proficient with Microsoft and other productivity tools (BlueJeans, Slack, Google Drive)
Work Environment
Exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions
Requires moderate physical effort. Standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling, pushing, lifting.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds without assistance, repetitively.
May walk and work on uneven and slick surfaces
Requires reaching above and below shoulder height
Some exposure to dust, gas, fumes and chemicals
Exposure to blood borne pathogens: Level III
May need to use a ladder or stool to reach product or supplies

Compensation
Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
