Under the general supervision of the Linehaul Manager, coordinates and improves freight

movement between the Linehaul Dispatchers and the regions, determines best practices that allows

for maximum utilization of resources, and provides daily leadership and development assignments for Line Haul dispatchers.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates future driver vacancies and plans for the seamless movement of freight by positioning

resources as needed.

• Identifies and communicates Linehaul Driver staffing needs to Linehaul Planning and Scheduling

team weekly.

• Oversees daily application of Purchase Transportation resources to compliment Saia availability

and service needs.

• Collaborates with Supervisor of Linehaul Planning on linehaul schedule changes and weekly

Company Team availability and resourcing need.

• Educates and develops Linehaul Dispatchers from initial education through continuing development of linehaul network regions as experience and expertise are gained.

• Assesses individual dispatcher performance and contributes to performance evaluations providing education and feedback in areas identified as opportunities.

• Communicates with terminal personnel on opportunities to improve freight coordination, cube

utilization, load average, load plan compliance, service performance, and low cost alternatives.

• Serves as a primary point of contact for daily ongoing service inquiries.

• Monitors Saia Solutions shipments and performance, communicating and directing terminals

handling of these priority service shipments and dispatch assignments.

• Performs additional duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years transportation management experience

• Transportation Planning experience

• BA/BS degree in Business, Transportation or equivalent

• Strong communication skills

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Knowledge of AS400 software system

• Experience with project management tools (SmartSheet or Project)
