Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor position is responsible for supervising shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

• Make sure that properly trained burner/watchman are capable operating the kilns and dryer at maximum efficiency and producing the highest quality product

• Burner/watchmen must also need to be able to handle simple technical problems when assistance is not readily available

• Ensure the inventory of parts is sufficient to address regular maintenance and emergency needs so that production runs at maximum output at all times

• Assist maintenance supervisor in the performing and scheduling regular maintenance and preventative maintenance in order to minimize downtime and overtime

• Manage operation so that safety is a priority and all equipment and operating procedures are clearly defined and employees understand the safety and hazards of their specific jobs

• Analyzes work orders to estimate worker hours and create kiln schedules that meet both internal and external needs

• Computes amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials from storage area

• Interprets specifications and job orders to workers, and assigns duties

• Plans flow of materials through department according to customer work orders

• Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Makes employment decisions. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.

• Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas.

• Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.

• Provide leadership through a 30-day planning cycle.

• Perform accident investigations.

• Maintain proper inventory levels.

• Manage department priorities.

• Track absenteeism and timekeeping.

Skills and Experience Required for Success

• 3-5 years of experience in a production environment

• 1 year supervisory experience preferred

Education
