NO OUT- OF- CLASS EXPERIENCE OR VERIFICATION OF EXPERIENCE LETTERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Current employees in the unclassified service who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam: Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service.
OR Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service by the last day of filing.
WITHHOLD INFORMATION Permanent employees who have completed their initial probationary period and hold a qualifying payroll title may file for this examination if they are within six months of meeting the experience requirements by the last day of filing.
However, the names of such employees will be WITHHELD from the certification list until the required experience is fully met.
DEFINITION Has responsibility for first line supervision of Parking Control Officers assigned to a unit.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS Positions allocable to this class work under the technical and administrative supervision of either a Traffic Sergeant or a Manager of Parking Operations and assist in the training and supervision of Parking Control Officers who enforce parking regulations, exclusive of moving violations, as cited in the vehicle code, municipal code, and the Los Angeles County Code by issuing warnings or citations for illegal parking in an assigned geographic area of Los Angeles County.
Incumbents also report possible violations of other codes or ordinances observed in the course of performing their regular duties to appropriate authorities.
Essential Job Functions Supervises, monitors, trains, and evaluates Parking Control Officers in the performance of their duties including monitoring of cite productivity and insuring that appropriate citation, immobilization, or towing of vehicles is accomplished in accordance with the law and department policy.
Assists the public by answering questions regarding parking regulations, routes of travel, points of interest, and distances in accordance with the department's service-oriented policing commitment.
Conducts field checks and submits reports regarding contested citations.
Conducts surveys and participates in special studies generated by citizen complaints concerning issues such as improper posting of signs and failure to enforce parking regulations in specific areas.
Observes and reports possible violations of codes or ordinances related to health and welfare, building and safety, or zoning to the proper inspection or enforcement authority.
Maintains a daily record of all actions taken.
Immobilizes vehicles by placing approved devices designed for this purpose on vehicles in compliance with department policy and procedure, laws, and regulations governing vehicle immobilization devices.
Provides court testimony.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Two years' experience as a Parking Control Officer in the service of the County of Los Angeles.* LICENSE A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS Physical Class IV - Arduous:
Involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION *To qualify, applicants must have County status in this class as evidenced by holding or having held such a payroll title.
NO OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE WILL BE ACCEPTED.
License Information:
Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed.
A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment.
License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked.

Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT This examination will consist of two (2) parts: PART I An interview covering training, experience and general ability to perform the duties of the position weighted 75%. ONLY THOSE CANDIDATES WHO ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON PART I WILL PROCEED TO PART II.
PART II An Appraisal of Promotabilityweighted 25%. The Appraisal of Promotabilitywill evaluate supervision, dependability, work knowledge and skills, adaptability, and oral communication skills.
CANDIDATES MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON EACH WEIGHTED PART OF THE EXAMINATIONIN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

Positions allocable to this class perform a wide variety of routine field work under the supervision of higher-level personnel involving responsibility for responding to incidents and providing animal control services in an unincorporated area or contract city of the County and in accordance with established service agreements. Incumbents typically operate light vehicles while working in the field with a great deal of independence and are expected to utilize a basic knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Department of Animal Care and Control and applicable codes and ordinances governing animal care and control, animal identification, recognition of illness, habits and behavior of various animals and the techniques and equipment used in capturing, restraining, receiving, feeding, caring for, grooming and releasing animals. Incumbents also are expected to enforce State, County and City codes, ordinances, and laws pertaining to animals. Essential Job Functions * Patrols an assigned geographical area in a light truck observing for violations or responding to incidents. * Captures both domestic and wild animals, using equipment and methods appropriate for animal abatement and control; may require chasing, climbing fences and crawling under houses. * Inspects animal facilities to ensure conformance to laws; explains violations and need for correction of such things as poor sanitary conditions, inadequate food and over-crowded conditions. * Issues citations, licenses, warnings and/or legal notices; enforces licensing laws. * Assists a Registered Veterinary Technician by prepping and restraining animals for vaccination or euthanasia. * Assists a veterinarian in a spay and neuter clinic or during euthanasia as needed. * Serves as office information officer and radio dispatcher; receives in-person and telephone requests for information and animal control services from citizens and public agencies and dispatches officers to routine incidents. * Reports to a field command post established to provide extended hours of animal containment, capture and relocation in emergencies such as brush fires, floods or animals loose on public thoroughfares. * Testifies in court as to facts related to violations of animal control laws. * Presents departmentally prepared and approved educational programs including tours, lectures, slides and demonstrations at schools and civic meetings. * Picks up small dead animals manually and large animals such as horses or cows, using a truck-driven winch and harness. * Provides assistance in office operations or in kennels, as needed. Requirements SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: Six months of paid full time experience at the level of Animal Shelter Aid* or Animal Care Attendant* in an animal regulatory agency or Veterinary Hospital AND successful completion of a department-sponsored training program per California Penal Code Section 832 is required within six (6) months of appointment as a condition of completing probationary status. LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License; and a valid California Class B Driver License may be required. Candidates must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register. SPECIAL INFORMATION: Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. This position requires lifting of extremely heavy objects.
