Supervising Librarian I

The City of Norfolk's Department of Libraries is currently seeking a Supervising Librarian I for it's Jordan Newby Anchor Branch Library at Broad Creek.

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $46,589.00

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for supervision of all aspects of the branch in absence of branch manager.

• Responsible for supervising and training staff members.

• Assists with scheduling and payroll recordkeeping for staff.

• Provides customer service by assisting patrons with using library materials and services including reference questions involving resources in print and electronic formats, Internet and database searching, and community information.

• Serves on the public service desks and participates in the roving model of service throughout the library.

• Performs administrative duties by preparing and analyzing statistical reports, assisting with outreach activities, and participating in the system-wide committees as assigned.

• Participates in collection development including selection and weeding of materials.

• Provides Reader's Advisory assistance.

• Participates in program planning, displays, and/or other library projects as assigned.

Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline which is acquired in a Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university.

One year of professional experience in library services or related field.

Requires proficiency with computers, internet searching, and Microsoft office applications such as WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint.

Supervisory and/or management experience preferred.

• State of Virginia Professional Librarian Certification

• Valid Driver's license

Work Hours:  40 hours per week with weekend & evening rotations

Signing Bonus:  This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.
