Supervising Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Correctional Facility

$5,176 - $6,756 Monthly Range

This is the supervisory level in this series. Incumbent, under general medical direction, is responsible to plan, develop, coordinate, and supervise the work of a large clinical laboratory for a State correction facility; and perform the most difficult technical work. Incumbent assigns, directs, and checks the work of laboratory personnel, including technologists and assistants; participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of personnel, equipment, space, method comparison, cost analysis and establishment of reference intervals; writes and revises technical policy/procedures; instructs workers in laboratory principles and practices, evaluates their work, and takes appropriate action with respect to their work performance; directs the tabulating and recording of tests.

The position(s) require(s) a Clinical Laboratory Scientist License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid California State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or a license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health Services. (Applicants who do not meet these requirements will be admitted to the examination, but must secure the required license before they will be considered eligible for appointment, AND

Three years of experience in comprehensive clinical laboratory work which has involved making laboratory analyses.

The program provides housing assistance through a special Section 8 voucher program to allow homeless veterans to rent privately-owned housing. Responsibilities: Under supervision of licensed Program Manager, the Clinical Case Manager: * Performs needs assessments with clients to determine housing stability barriers and develops housing stabilization plans with participants * Works with participants that are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems by motivating behavioral changes among enrolled participants * Conducts ongoing psychosocial assessments to determine needs of Veterans and family members and encourages active participation in the treatment planning process * Conducts scheduled weekly home visits for each assigned participant; provides unscheduled visits for crisis intervention as required by critical incidents Qualifications Required: Education: * Master's degree in social work, psychology, or counseling from fully-accredited college or university; Master's degree (MSW) preferred Experience: * At least 5 years of experience (or MSW) in mental health/substance use disorder treatment and/or working with homelessness Knowledge: * Effective written and oral communications skills with people from varied backgrounds Technology Skills: * Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to learn and use program-specific software Skills and Abilities: * Valid California drivers license and access to dependable transportation with adequate insurance Preferred Qualifications: * Registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Marriage Family Therapist Intern (MFTI) * Coursework in substance use disorder counseling a plus * U.S. Armed Forces Veteran preferred * At least 1 year in residential treatment setting preferred * Basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities, especially cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy skills training (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), relapse prevention (RP), Seeking Safety preferred * If recovering substance user, must have at least 3 years of sobriety Volunteers of America is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
