Position Summary

This Gas Transmission General Construction Superintendent provides leadership for 5 direct reports and a team of 65 total employees which include represented utility workers, equipment operators, welders, working foremen, and safety specialists. The team works in crews to construct assigned gas transmission projects spanning our entire service territory, but the work area is primarily located north of a Stockton to Livermore line. Work includes hydrostatic tests, pipe replacement, in-line inspection upgrades, valve automation, valve installations, inspection digs, emergency repairs, station construction, storage and well work, and other transmission work. Key aspects of team responsibilities include preparing for construction projects with work and resource plans, job site preparation and coordination, job site walk-downs, mobilization of equipment, excavation, construction of pipe and appurtenances, coordination of hydrotest, RT, and compliance documentation, tracking and reporting job progress and units completed as key inputs to General Construction metrics and dashboards, cost management activities and cost reporting, and providing subcontractor administration. The Gas Transmission General Construction Superintendent is responsible for providing planning, leadership, vision, and problem solving in support of the supervisors who lead our construction crews. The GTGC Superintendent will be an expert and leader in safe work practices and will be expected to lead this team through PG&E's lean management efforts.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $136,000.

Bay Area Maximum: $232,000.

&/OR

California Minimum: $129,000.

California Maximum: $220,000.

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and vision to inspire the construction teams to work safely, perform high quality workmanship, and communicate with business partners to create a great customer experience so that GTGC is the preferred constructor of transmission projects

  • Oversees work and resource planning for all major projects assigned to the team including labor workforce, fleet, fleet rentals, contractor use, etc.

  • Performs problem solving and initiates solutions to issues that can't be resolved at the supervisor level, which are raised at huddle meetings and in other discussions

  • Makes plans and oversees initiatives aimed at improving the affordability of our projects

  • Monitors and analyzes ongoing projects and work efforts to ensure project is completed on-time and on-budget

  • Periodically attends table top reviews, job walks, scheduling meetings and job specific progress meetings to review projects to ensure constructability and estimates are appropriate, accurate and realistic.

  • Periodically advises/helps GT/GC project planners produce accurate T&D system wide construction schedules, crew schedules and job specific detail schedules for those projects.

  • Maintains a positive relationship with design engineers and project managers

  • Provides mentoring and training to employees and business partners.

  • Spends approximately 25% of time in the field meeting with construction supervisors and stakeholders to review projects and provide assistance and support as needed and performing field visits

  • Conducts huddles with supervisors each week

  • Provides effective leadership, coaching and development of employees through the goal setting and performance evaluation process, development planning process, and providing frequent open and honest feedback.

  • Leads, tracks and reports on department and project work progression and customer satisfaction

  • Creates and promotes a joyful workplace environment, and supports activities that grows future leaders and promotes the satisfaction and retention of employees

  • Works from remote locations within assigned north zone and attends meetings in the San Ramon office and other system-wide locations as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience

  • 8 years Job-related experience - applicable oil/gas T&D construction project experience

  • Leadership experience, 2 years

  • CA Class C License, or equivalent

  • Subject to random DOT drug and alcohol testing

Desired:

  • Experience in gas transmission, distribution and conveyance pipeline construction; knowledge of compressor station or similar complex facility construction.

  • Knowledge of carbon steel and alloy piping materials, welding processes, procedures and standards used on gas transmission pipelines and compressor stations.

  • Experience in cost accounting, contract administration and project scheduling.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Experience managing capital, O&M, and labor budgets

  • Travel within PG&E service territory is required

  • Knowledge of the procedures, methodologies and deliverables required for the management of construction projects required to ensure a safe gas transmission pipeline infrastructure and network.

  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate civil/mechanical gas transmission construction drawings, procedures, process instrumentation, work methods, standards, policies and guidelines.

  • Familiarity with the processes and orientation of construction contracting firms.

  • Strong project and people management skills, ability to gain cooperation from others in order to achieve a goal.

  • Ability to engage employees through coaching and mentoring while driving performance and results.

Ability to create, promote and manage a safe work environment.
