Job Summary

The Superintendent Fwill be responsible for supporting and assisting the Project Manager and Operations Manager in the day to day operations at Pavement Maintenance Systems. This includes, but is not limited to, creating a safety culture, managing construction crew(s), coordinating job-site activities and materials and completing required reports.

Job Functions

  • Communication of the daily plan and related changes in strategy with all on-site employees

  • Coordination of activities for specified projects to ensure all costs, schedule, quality, and safety objectives and standards are met, and that proper materials are stocked and available to achieve those objectives and standards

  • Act as a key contributor in building a safety culture and ensuring employee compliance with company safety policies and procedures as well as coordinating and facilitation of weekly safety meetings

  • Responsible for collecting time cards/logbooks, verifying time worked and entering time into the time system

  • Accountable for completing the gathering and reporting daily equipment usage and weekly fuel usage, in addition to completing the daily production report

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction principles, techniques, and procedures strongly preferred

  • Ability to read contract plans and specifications

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written communication) with management, staff and outside entities

  • Safety consciousness

  • Basic computer knowledge required, including Microsoft Office Suite

Experience, Education and Other Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work overtime, when needed

  • Must possess a chauffer's license or obtain a chauffer's license within a specified time after being hired

  • Must have a history of safe driving record

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Must pass a criminal background check, routine physical and drug screen

  • Physical Requirements Include Ability to safely walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, see, and hear. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • The employee will be expected to work in a variety of work environments, inclusive of, but not exclusive to Office, meeting room, outdoors and in a range of mobile equipment. The employee will be required to be exposed to extreme weather conditions at job sites. Weather conditions may include humidity, cold, heat, sun, and wet conditions. The employee must be tolerant of the dust and noise level caused by equipment, traffic, etc. at job sites that may be unusually heavy/loud.

Job Description Position: Technician, Wood Boiler Shift: 6th (7pm - 7am) Essential Job Functions: * Assist the Wood Boiler Superintendent with Wood Boiler Plant Operation. * Assumes the responsibility of the shift as the wood boiler operator and/or Loader Operator, learn the operational and documentation procedures required to properly operate all associated wood boiler & loader equipment. * Study the equipment operational and safety instructions to acquire sufficient knowledge to operate the wood boiler in a safe and effective manner. * Monitor critical instrumentation and record required information on legal documents. * Perform mechanical repairs and general cleaning assignments. * Perform other duties as they are assigned. Overtime as required to have sufficient shift coverage and work each shutdown as scheduled. No Vacation during Plant Outages. * Coordinate activities of support personnel on shift. * May directly supervise these personnel when required. * Direct activities of vendor and subcontractor personnel while assigned to shift. * Continuously monitor Facility equipment operation to ensure efficient and safe operation. * Master a shift turnover process to ensure a seamless transfer of information to the oncoming shift. * Evaluate overall Facility and individual equipment performance and identify means to make improvements and/or resolve problems. * Responsible for developing and conducting on-going training for personnel. Promote professionalism, growth, and development. * Participate in special projects and duties assigned by the Wood Boiler Superintendent or Supervisor to enhance unit operation. * This may include documenting and reporting equipment status, water quality analysis, instrument and control calibration, procedures, etc. * Responsible for operating the Facility in a way which maximizes output and revenue for the Owner and Company and minimizes losses. * Responsible for the safety of all personnel at the Facility during shift. Responsible for the correct and adequate response to emergencies such as fire, hurricanes, etc. by personnel supervised by the position. * Responsible to the Manager of Operations to ensure that the facility complies with the Environmental Compliance Program and that they have taken all reasonable precautions to prevent incidents of noncompliance by themselves or on the part of others. * Shall further be responsible to immediately report to the Manager of Operations and Environmental Engineer any known or suspected violations to the environmental program or any situation they suspect could lead to a violation. * Responsible to maintain confidentiality of all information available to the position. * Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor to this position, but not specifically stated in this description. * Record and review equipment operating data on a regular basis so as to preclude equipment problems and to improve efficiency. * Responsible for knowing and following, the Operations and Procedures Manual and updates to those manuals. Responsible for informing the Manager of Operations of any abnormal plant operating condition, safety problems, environmental problems, injury to any personnel, and plant equipment that has been lost or damaged. * Responsible for actively participating and completing all required training programs. Responsible for maintaining a positive attitude, professional and courteous behavior, motivation, initiative, cooperation, and participation. * Required to have a home telephone, required to be on call as needed, and required to work overtime as deemed necessary by the Wood Boiler Superintendent. * Responsible for maintaining a level of physical fitness necessary to perform all related job elements and physically demanding tasks (i.e. climbing, lifting, carrying and transporting heavy objects, standing for long durations, crawling through portholes, manways and working in confined spaces, working outdoors during summer and winter, and wearing of personal protection equipment as required. * Green uniforms to be issued. Must be clean shaven enough to wear a respirator at any time needed or requested daily and must be able to wear a respirator per Baxter Respirator Policy. * Must be able to work in confined spaces during outages, etc, cannot be claustrophobic. * Holidays are worked, not off, unless can be scheduled off and rotated as much as possible. * Uniforms provided. Qualifications and Skills: * Must have demonstrated technical ability, in the operation and maintenance of steam generating systems, with previous employment verification. * High school diploma or equivalency, with 5 (five) year's power plant operation experience with at least a B1 level Boiler Attendant Or at least 1 year of Baxter Wood Boiler Senior Handler Level C6, Other considerations Navel Veteran as Petty Officer with A school, B school, Pump school and Boiler Technician Training. * Able to operate plant equipment via PLC and read and interpret SOP's and other related diagrams and P&ID's. * Thorough, knowledge of personal computers and software and their use, Excel & Word, daily documentation required. Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable to do the following: Must be able to personally respond to plant emergencies. Must be physically capable to work a rotating shift schedule. Must be capable of working while standing or walking for extended periods, and able to climb stairs and ladders. Work at heights and with adverse conditions during operation and when participating in fire and emergency activities. Enter and work in a confined space. Lift 100 lbs. of weight. Eyesight corrected to 20/40 to accurately read and interpret instruments and gauges. Pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test. Hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication. Valid driver's license required.
