Job Title: Summer Stables Maintenance Worker

Department: Equestrian Maintenance

Reports To: Stables Manager

Job Type: This is a part time, non exempt position.

General Description:

The position is responsible for feeding horses, loading and unloading hay and manure, cleaning stalls, and upkeep of stables facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ø Feed and water horses as specified.

Ø Clean individual horse stalls, removing manure and place new bedding as directed.

Ø Unload and stack hay upon delivery.

Ø Load hay into wagons for distribution.

Ø Load/unload manure for removal from WWU premises.

Ø Work/prepare arena areas as directed.

Ø Perform other maintenance functions at the discretion of the Stables Manager.

Ø Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Ø High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Ø Must have experience working with large animals, preferably horses. Experience working on a farm or stables preferred.

Ø Varied work experience preferably in grounds and general maintenance and/or construction.

Ø Any combination of education training or experience that provides required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Ø Ability to operate various hand tools, power tools and machinery (tractors, uniloaders, dump trucks, brush hog, mowers).

Ø Ability to repair equipment.

Ø Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.

Typical Physical Demands:

Ø Ability to climb several flights of stairs several times each day.

Ø Ability to lift, push or pull 100 pounds or more.

Ø Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, bend, walk or stand for long periods.

Ø Ability to be subjected to chemical, mechanical or electrical hazards.

Ø Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges.

Ø Ability to be subjected to motor or machine noise.

Ø Ability to wear protective clothing or work irregular hours.

Ø Ability to be exposed to dusts, fumes and odoriferous working conditions.

Ø Ability to speak and read English fluently.

Ø Ability to hear.

Ø Holds a valid Missouri driver's license and able to adhere to the WWU vehicle policy.

Ø Able to drive any type of vehicle without restrictions, and able to drive any type of machinery as needed.

Work Schedule:

This is a temporary position. Summer workers will work up to 40 hours a week, 5 to 6 days a week.

Summer break: April - August 2024.
