Position Summary:

In this role you'll be working on a team designing and building the next innovations that will delight millions of listeners. You will have access to billions of hours of music listening history by hundreds of millions of listeners who have provided a hundred billion thumbs on their stations and playlists. And truly unique to SiriusXM + Pandora, you'll be working with extremely rich and diverse interlinked music and talk metadata, including annotations of our expert musicologists with the Music Genome Project's 450+ musical characteristics. With these resources at your fingertips, you will build systems that accelerate innovations in personalization, search & voice, content understanding, and advertising & marketing science.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute solutions to a broad set of machine learning problems ranging from novel recommendation algorithms to large-scale bandit problems, and from natural language understanding to information retrieval, all to build the next generation of audio entertainment.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Internships are open to current students enrolled at a university and recent graduates who graduated within the 12-month period prior to the start of the internship.

  • Pursuing a PhD or MS degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics or a related quantitative field (ideally <2 years="" away="" from="">
    Requirements and General Skills:
  • Expertise in any of: applied causal inference, machine learning, statistics, search, voice interfaces.

  • Solid programming skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a small team with a diverse skill set.

  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with data analysis, ML, and data visualization tools in Python or R.

  • Familiarity with common machine learning libraries (e.g. sk-learn, TensorFlow).

  • Experience with SQL (or proprietary equivalent).

  • Experience with other languages like Java/Scala or big data tools (e.g. hive, spark) is a bonus.

Successful applicants will be placed into one of the two tracks. As an intern, you will work with our expert buying and planning teams. You'll gain hands-on experience and learn what it takes to buy brands customers want at great values. You'll be challenged to generate meaningful business ideas, culminating in a final project which you will present to senior management. Throughout the internship, you'll gain a taste for the culture of the company, all while having fun and learning about yourself! Assistant Buyer Intern * Perform the administrative &amp; operational functions supporting a designated buyer. Handle purchase order management and administration as well as processing markdowns. This includes writing orders, changes, cancellations and necessary follow-up (both internally and externally) to ensure key shipments are delivered and processed. * Analyze and interpret key business issues as directed by supervisor including the monitoring of regional merchandise reports, Open-to-Buy monitoring, and stock analysis. * Develop effective relationships with vendors. This includes appropriate level of interaction with vendors in terms of both problem resolution and follow-up. * Demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize the merchandising systems and understand warehouse processes. Includes utilizing systems and preparation of reporting to allow for interpretation of the business. * Demonstrate product knowledge through sharing information with buyer as a result of competitive shopping, shopping Ross Stores, and the market. Assistant Planner Intern * Partners with supervisor to understand business opportunities by looking at all reports, resources, and systems to begin to interpret statistics/analysis * Ensures error scripts are run weekly and resolved Pre-Season Region/Class Plans * Partners with manager to recommend product flow due to seasonality and customer demographics * In partnership with team, review Pre-Season region monthly class plans based on key metrics * Supports manager in creation of initial seasonal plans to learn how to develop plans that are well thought out and support corporate direction In-Season Region/Class Plans * Begins to analyze current business performance to understand future impact to make recommendations to manager * Is beginning to understand the concept of recommending which classes require trending at region and store level What you bring to the table… * A desire to learn, grow and engage * A team player attitude * A drive for results * A passion for product and an interest in weaving a story out of numbers!
